Are these truly paleo? They listed evaporated cane juice, and just full out blatant sugar in the ingredient list... what's the deal?

Sugar, lame choices of oils, etc. etc. Why are you surprised? It is a blatant attempt to cash in on a trend.

+1 for agreeing on the pre-packaged comment. -1 for the comment about finding grassfed meat online "not being paleo"... So people that cannot locally source grassfed meats are just boned?

I probably wouldn't trust a packaged snack brand called "snax" in the first place. Second, packaged paleo anything is an oxymoron. For me, paleo isn't just about the ingredients, it's the whole process of how the food is made and where it comes from (ie- I don't consider ordering grass-fed beef online completely paleo).

Confused, I went to their site. You are specifically talking about their jerky, I take it, as they have a dozen different items on there... but their jerky is the only item that lists Evaporated Cane Juice.

No, sugar is not paleo. Nor is their "jerky". Evaporated Cane Juice = SUGAR (in doublespeak).

So I hope they cut that crap out. But regardless, jerky isn't that hard to make on your own so I'd bypass it, personally.

As much as I like the idea of a Paleo food label, it isn't going to happen - it really isn't possible on multiple levels... if there was a paleo food "company", it would be mailorder pro-Paleo grassfed pastured meat shops like US Wellness or (even better) Slanker's.

Short answer: no.

Refined sugar definitely isn't paleo - but to be fair, I have to use at least dextrose in a lot of the stuff I bake. I certainly wouldn't call it Paleo food, but personally I'm more concerned with gut irritation (no grains) in anything I buy than being perfectly sugar free, although obviously you want to keep it to a minimum.

How many grams of sugar is in it?
