Would drinking alcohol/4 lokos break ketosis if I'm on a very high fat diet?

I'd like to try a mostly fat diet to test some n=1. The point will be to maintain ketosis for at least 10 days, and see what happens. I inevitably get invitations to go out around this time of year, and drinking is usually involved.

4 lokos is my drink of choice, but I know it's high in sugar...if I'm eating 200 calories of grass fed beef lard a day, would alcohol prevent me from maintaining ketosis?

If you want my advice, it's just not worth it. I saw negative effects throughout the three weeks I was in deep ketosis. I am much happier out of it. I did a second ketosis experiment, trying to stay in ketosis while maintaining high carb (I got up to 90g while maintaining .5 mmol/L. It was the second experiment where I also experimented with alcohol.

I defined ketosis as greater than .5 mmol/L as measured by a Precision Xtra. The experiment design was I tested myself for blood ketone level, then drank one serving in 10 minutes (.5 oz alcohol, or the equivalent of a 12oz beer with 5oz alcohol by volume). Then I tested myself every five minutes. In every case the 4th measure was less than .5mmol/L.

Curious I am - how can you tell with such precision whether you're in ketosis? How do you know just that moment you're knocked out of ketosis and when you get back into it? I'm a skinny guy but starting to want to try ketosis just for some n=1. People say some interesting stuff like what you have.

this is the first time I've ever heard/seen someone refer to 4 Loko as their "drink of choice"

yes. Alcohol will, immediately, kick you out of ketosis. During my ketosis experiment, it took me 20 minutes to be knocked out of ketosis with even one beer. I tried it with beer, scotch, and wine. All three, one serving and I'm done.

Now once my body metabolizes the alcohol, you can go back into ketosis, but you will not stay in ketosis. I had three others try the same thing, all three had the same reaction as I did.

4 lokos will introduce like 101 new variables to your n=1, so maybe you should drink something else? Besides, some people call fall out of ketosis at 25 g carbs and other can fall out at 150, it just depends on the person.
