Dark tends to have less sugar as well. When I buy it I look at the sugar content on the back and go for the least amount of sugar. I'm less likely to binge on bittersweet.

Honestly, just stop it.

Since starting paleo I noticed that I am WAY more sensitive to sugar, so when I have a little (just one bite of a cookie, for example) it feels like the sugar hijacks my mind and forces me to have more.

So I just decided to totally cut out sugar, and it's been fine. If I don't allow myself even a little taste, I won't have cravings. The attempts to 'satisfy' the craving actually create the craving.

But...I love fruit, and I don't restrict it. The first few weeks of paleo I probably ate 3-4 plums a day, 1-2 oranges, lots of melon, berries, etc....but gradually the amount decreased and I now eat a normal, seasonal amount of fruit.

What's your carb court a day? By the way, it's possible that you have too little magnessium in your diet which could also explain your chocolate cravings.

You may not be eating enough at dinner itself. Esp. carbs. Maybe you're still hungry.

Also sugar is addictive.

I eat two dark squares of chocolate after lunch and then I make myself stop. Like you, I have IBS, and dark chocolate can have a laxative effect, so there's another good reason to limit your consumption. Be nice to your tummy.

yeah i'd say you prolly need more carbohydrates in your life. this is how i was when i went too low carb for too long. i would find myself bingeing on sugary shit food. if your metabolically healthy try upping your carb intake by getting some fruits and tubers.

It sounds as though you are binging. Binging is usually the result of something deeper then craving chocolate. I am no Doc - so that is up to you to figure out.

I would absolutely start with ensuring you are eating enough throughout the day and within the first 30 minutes of waking up in the morning.

Make a point of eating every 3 hours, so you never reach the state of ravenous and uncontrollable binging.

In every meal, include healthy fats (almond butter, coconut oil), lean proteins (eggs, game meat), and fibre rich carbs (fruit and vegetables with the skin on) all touted with satisfying cravings.

Instead of being excited about dessert, be excited about dinner. Make every meal count. Make it colourful and tasty. There are so many awesome Paleo options.

You may want to consider not having dark chocolate in the house for now as well.

Good luck. I needed it at one point too!
