Why do I crave sweets after lunch and never at any other time?

I have been eating Paleo for months, and my sugar cravings have pretty much disappeared. I never crave sweets anymore, and never had a sweet tooth to begin with. However, lately after lunch I find myself craving something sweet, especially chocolate covered nuts. Am I lacking in a certain nutrient which is causing this? Am I not eating enough lunch?

My diet consists of plenty of grass fed meats, animal fats, raw dairy and organic vegetables.

Yep. I'm a desk jockey and generally want a little dark chocolate and a cup of coffee every day after lunch. I think I've formed a habit and addiction of sorts (and am probably a little bored) because my brain tells me I want this daily regardless of what I've eaten for lunch. There are worse things, I suppose, but I'm not pleased about my "dependence" on these.

same for me everyday after lunch - something is just missing if I dont have some dark chocolate, but I think it's more about I have just trained my brain to expect/crave that after lunch treat, than if Im missing a nutrient or something. If for some terrible reason I have none on hand ,...than my brain/stomach/system spends several hours pining for it,...then eventually moves on. the darker the choco (higher %) the less I have to eat to fill that craving. One square of lindt 85%,..and I dont usually want much more,.... not the case with the sweeter stuff.

I find that if I have something minty, or brush my teeth, then the craving goes away.

I too cannot miss my lunch time dark chocolate. But I can quell the sugar cravings with 2 squares of Lindt's 90% dark chocolate bar for a mere 1.5 grams of sugar... it's my secret weapon in the crusade against excess sugar!

First, we have to eliminate an emotional element--high excitement or anger/anxiety/depression--in the background that may nudge you to find "comfort" in food. That would definitely be carbs of some shape or form.

If emotion isn't involved, do you have any issues with SAD? We are in the day-shortening phase.

Also, you may just need some carbs! Or, as said by others, trace elements. :-))

Make sure your breakfast is large with protein and fat with no carbs. This may help if you are not already doing so.
