What wil do the most damage?

Dear Paleohackers,

First I will give you some background information. I now have been 6 months on and off the paleo wagon. For the last 40 days I have been strict paleo and I have no intentions to go back to my old ways of eating. Also I follow the CrossFit.com mainpage with a 3 on/1 off schedule. I have lost some weight and have become much leaner by eating paleo(around 10-12%). I still got a little bit of fat around my belly but nothing to worry about.

My question is pretty simple. If I go for a paleo cheat, wich option will do the most damage and why:

  • A 750ml Innocent Banana, Pineapple and Coconut milk Smoothie (13,6g of carbs per 100ml)
  • 300 grams of organic Almond Butter with one piece of fruit

Sometimes in the weekend I like to take some sort of paleo cheat but I would like to know wich one will do the most damage. Also, what are other, mabye beter, paleo cheats that won't be so bad for me.

Already great thanks for anyone answering,

Wesley

I'm not sure what you mean here. How would green vegetables "balance" a sugar load?

Oh, and other paleo cheats: 86% Noir Brut Cote D'or. NorCal Margarita's.

do you make the butter yourself? If so, try the 'ongezouten grasboter' that the AH sells. (=grassfed). That stuff is NICE.

So, it's the difference between PUFAs/lectins (almonds) or sugar (banana/pineapple)...

I'd suggest that if you have your PUFAs and lectins under control, your body will be better able to deal with a small dose of sugar; but I don't know where your body is at with it's PUFA/lectin load. So...

I think the best person to answer this question is you!

I suggest that on one of your crossfit "off" days, you cheat all you want with just one of these options. Then see how you do in the gym the next day. Then wait two weeks, and on your next "off" day, cheat all you want with the other option, and then see how you do in the gym the next day.

Only your body can tell you which is worse for your body - PUFAs/lectins or sugar.

I think that those are not paleo cheats, or not really. It depends on your goals and personal health status. And on personal food sensitivities. I would call them treats. But, as you should do with treats, keep them special.

I would say: don't worry!

Worry about grains and seed oils and HFCS. Not about a banana, or some almond butter.

You could use raspberries and strawberries in the smoothie and dramatically reduce the fructose load.

Depends on the individual. If you have blood sugar issues, are a sugar addict, or are trying to lose weight, then fructose is more of an issue, but if you exercise hard, then the fructose could be much less of an issue and the lectins, gut irritation, PUFA, etc in the nuts might be more of an issue.

"... A 750ml Innocent Banana, Pineapple and Coconut milk Smoothie (13,6g of carbs per 100ml) 300 grams of organic Almond Butter with one piece of fruit ..."

both options have high sugar.

in both cases i would if your aware of it put some sald or green vegetables to it. So this is becoming balnced than.

my suggestion from this is some almond butter. a lot of greens to this and the coconut milk

Or some greens the coconutmilk and and a small amount fruit.

After eating fruit swish your mouth out with water.
