What happened to all of the top-rated Users?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Looking at the Users tab, I see that none of the top rated uses (MM, Travis Culp, Firefly, The Quilt) seem to post here anymore. Since they're presumably very knowledgeable, do they have their own books and/or blogs now? If so, would someone please provide some links? Thanks very much.

It's dead because the Mods aren't doing their jobs. They don't ban trolls for days but they ban those of us who have a little fun with them for a week and take away our ability to vote on posts. It's totally random with no communication etc...the site is done. Better groups on facebook anyway.

I meant that as a secondary point, not as my thrust. But you're 100% right, I agree with you. When I explain Paleo to my friends in detail, I often describe the flavors as: orthodox, conservative, or reform! (Haha!). That is to say, depending on how strict you want to be, how paleo you want to be, there are different styles. I myself am conservative, I don't go "all the way" so I don't mean this as a criticism of anyone who doesn't implement the most extreme form: I don't even do that myself! :)

I agree with pretty much everything you've said, but you make it sound like 'paleo theory' is some homogenous corpus that can be applied to everyone, regradless of individual circumstances. Subjectivity matters, can't PH be about drawing on theory and applying it to individual cases? so saying - yeah this or this might help, YMMV based on your previous experinces/context etc). Maybe I've misconstrued your emphasis a bit...

There are ways to game any system within its rules, as can be seen by a recently seen pro-GMO troll. The best that can be done is to fight the good fight and don't let them spread their lies - lives and health are at stake!

"...you just gotta go live life..." That. I found PH interesting and borderline consuming for many months but after a while it was just waves of the same questions over and over. There are many, many great conversations available for those interested in searching, but after a while you either acclimate to the lifestyle or you don't. And it's okay either way as long as you feel good.

I've noticed a whole lot of people posting stuff just to get their agenda out there. Like Bob with 1 reputation wants to let you know that this site totally changed his life, blah blah blah. Danielle, there are lots of good answers out here, so don't be discouraged, but it seems like the trolls are multiplying.

I sure hope you are wrong. I just found this site last week, and it has already proven to be helpful to me. I just started switching my lifestyle to Paleo. I only know one other person who is Paleo, but she lives in another state. So this site is a great way for me to get insight.

Paleo Hacks is on the way out. People with multiple accounts down-voting "enemies", Moderators not really paying attention. Specifically I've had the experience of making fun of a troll and having my account banned for a week while they continued to let the troll post questions about cum gargling and anal sex for another several days. The site is basically done, which is sort of a shame because it WAS a cool place to talk and play at one time.

Well I'm pretty new here, but my guess is that the Top Users reached a state of total Paleo-lightenment and crossed over to the other side... where they now only need to breathe moonlight for energy, rather than eating.

This makes way for the new generations of Paleohacks askers and answerers to become the Top users.

Stabby still weighs in once in a while and I think his answers are almost always quite informative. Quilt is Jack Kruse....sure you can find his site. I mean you can only fill your life with so much of this forum....then you just gotta go live life and do something different for a while. I did so for several months then got sucked back in. Probably time for another break shortly.

I was never one of the top 5 posters here, but I used to be on the front page of the list of users by their score, so I was not too far from the top. My one sentence response, speaking only for myself, is: the severe drop in quality of the site.

Now, so many questions are meta- questions or ridiculous or random or repetitions of questions that have been asked dozens of times or those spam questions - that it's harder to read Paleohacks anymore :(

And the answers--now, so often people post answers that are self-help-ily subjective ("You should do whatever works best for you!"), the sorts of things from self-help forums, not appropriate for a forum where we're trying to figure out the healthiest way to be paleo. Yes, of course you should do what's best for you--but that's different than, what does Paleo theory say you should do (the issue the site is dedicated to!). Etc.

It's sad because I really enjoyed our community a lot; and I'm looking forward to the Paleohacks 2.0 which I hope happens one day! :)

PS: I just read PH to catch up and the first post I saw on my reader was, someone selling some coconut oil they bought but don't want. WTF??? And PPS: next post that I saw was the "reputation vs actual knowledge" criticizing the use of usernames--come-on folks, the whole paleo ethos is to judge people by their arguments and knowledge, not the credentials (it is credentialism that got us SAD and the horrible diets that the universities and government promote today!).

People come, people go. This is the way of the internet. Some of those you mentioned may have moved on to other things. Others may have simply grown tired of this site.

Some will come back and others are gone.

And, truth be known, if the ratings were accurate I'd be at about minus 25,000. I know little and contribute less, yet the kind people here sometimes upvote me.
