What else have you changed in your life?

Since going paleo I have started Oil pulling for my teeth, taking colder showers with big bursts of freezing at the end, wearing 5fingers everywhere, and stopped using all of the toxic beauty products that have parabens, pthalates, petrochemicals, ect. I also started wearing gloves at work, since I am a florist, I was concerned about residual pesticide exposure. As far as food goes, I stopped eating canned food and switched all of my food storage from plastic to glass. What have I overlooked? What do you do now that is different in your life besides just better eating habits?

I use this: http://everydaypaleo.com/2011/09/27/easy-remineralizing-toothpaste-recipe/ I made it with spearmint oil. It was strange at first because most store-bought toothpaste is sweet, but now that I'm used to it, I find it to be sweet. I'm going to make a new batch tonight using cinnamon oil. I do oil pulling once a week, floss, and use this toothpaste and my mouth has never been cleaner.

You should look into K-9 Kravings for your dog. It is what we feed our dog and our cat, it is a raw diet that has beef, tripe, and the cow's stomach contents and other good bits. Smells pretty bad but our breeder turned us on to it. It is like paleo for puppies!

I love using coconut oil as a moisturizer, my husband said it makes me smell good too. The rest of it we already had in check before eating paleo except the toothpaste thing I tried making my own once and it was pretty disgusting. I was considering giving this a try though: http://shop.mercola.com//product/dr-mercolas-natural-toothpaste-3-pack,477.htm

I use coconut oil because of it's natural anti-bacterial properties. The one I use is unrefined so it has a slight coconut aroma, this makes it much easier. Anyways, so far oil pulling has made my teeth look whiter a bit, I havent noticed and serious changes yet, it seems to be working to pull a lot of crap out of my gums and even my throat. I am hoping this plus a Weston A Price regimin will help me heal a few cavities left from eating disorders

I love oil pulling, Danielle. It makes flossing so much easier and there is far less bleeding. I do it once a week, more often if my gums are inflamed or sore from food. I use sunflower oil. I tried using olive oil and coconut oil, but gagged too much. The olive oil was like using motor oil and I gag if the coconut oil is not liquid.

I've been wanting to try oil pulling for some time now. What has been your experience with this?

I make my own toothpaste and alternate between coconut oil and a castor oil/almond oil mix for moisturizers. We no longer use commercial sun screens and I ditched non-stick pans in favor of stainless steel and cast iron. I cook more and healthier meals and take my lunch to work. Lately I haven't needed a mid-day meal, just bulletproof coffee in the morning and supper with the family in the later afternoon or early evening. My house cleaning habits have changed drastically. I actually clean up on a daily basis now instead of having to spend 48 hours cleaning before we had people over. I'm still not Susie Homemaker, but now I'm not embarrassed if someone drops in. I don't know if it is a mindset change or if I have more energy now, but it's working!

This has been a lifestyle overhaul for my household and we are enjoying every minute of it!

Getting enough sleep, mainly. I did 5 hours a night for years; now I'm really making it a priority and getting 7-8. Also, I switched long-distance running for weightlifting and sprinting.

I've focused on getting myself off the food grid as much as possible. I now have a pretty substantial backyard garden and I hunt and fish whenever I can. The learning curve is very steep but I've been amazed at how much food you can produce through your own effort. I've been trying to train my foraging skills as well. Once you can identify it you start seeing purslane and edible seaweeds everywhere.

Good question. Here's the changes I've incorporated into my life besides just paleo/primal way of eating:

  • Eating more fermented foods: kombucha tea (brew my own), pickles (make my own), kraut (make my own)
  • Minimalist shoes whenever possible
  • Standing desk at work for at least 1/2 the day
  • Soak up sun whenever possible
  • Consume cod liver oil
  • In addition to getting enough sleep, I do my best to sleep in a blacked out room and avoid computers/phones/blue light at least 1 hour before bed. It's done wonders for my sleep.

I find my entire way of thinking has changed. It's constantly evolving though the longer I decide to live this way. I'm confident this is the best way for me to live.

My biggest changes outside of diet are minimalist shoes and getting ??ber sleep. I also tried sprinting, but I still have too much baggage for that.

Love this question. I started crossfit/strength training, butI haven't given up running simply because I enjoy it. (I have started running in VFFs.) I make sleep a priority now, getting 8-9 hours a night. I've also eliminated all grains from my dogs diet.

Besides my diet, body composition, blood pressure, and lipid profile, the only other major thing would be my exercise habits. But those haven't changed dramatically. I sprint more and do slower cardio less.
