What did you think was Paleo Crazy when you started that is now normal?

I hope this question makes sense!

When I first started Paleo and found Paleo Hacks, I read through a lot of questions and answers before posting.

I would report back to my newly Paleo friends at the gym that weren't really interested in researching much on their own.

I specifically remember thinking "Damn. Who eats butter straight?! Not on something? GROSS!!"

Tonight, I'm slicing of little pieces of Kerrygold as I cook and savoring every bit of it as it melts in my mouth.

And I'm actually considering the cold showier thing.... maybe.

I remember reading a book on my parents bookshelf called "The Primal Scream" when I was a kid. I believe it's a therapeutic technique for healing trauma? I think you're on to something there. ;)

ive been avoiding shampoo and soap for about a year now.. 6 months in i started using soap once per week after heavy workouts. though i like the idea of cold showers, the hot showers help to clean off the built up oils on my scalp and body. excess buildup was causing dandruff and smelly hair. the hot showers clean the scalp and body enough to avoid these issues but does not strip it too much to cause other problems.

@SM - Haven't continued them as I'm a total baby about it. However, I have a goal to do this once per week. Every spa I to to has cold water immersion and it is totally amazing. The screaming def. works :) Here's a write up Mark did http://www.marksdailyapple.com/cold-water-therapy/

I do the same except I'll go hang out with my friends at their place and pass out if we're watching a movie or something. We usually rent because there's no sense in me spending money to pass out in the movie theater! Though somehow when we go to bars I'm more able to stay awake.

I agree. I almost crave ice cold showers now. I do mix in a hot one when I want to relax, but I genuinely like the cold now.

I do this every day, my husband caught me doing it once and stared at me like I had turned into a giant cockroach or something. It made my day! I don't even bother explaining the things I do anymore, no one in my area seems to get it anyway.

The cold shower thing is pretty easy if you start out hot and slowly dial it back. Just the opposite of frogs.

We ran out of propane in December and had no hot water for 3 days. I passed it off as being "all paleo and sheyat". Does that count?

I ate bugs long before going paleo. Meal worms and grubs are absolutely delicious. And I grew up on a farm where we slaughtered our own lambs, chickens, and ducks, so offal is no biggy...but I never thought I'd take a bite out of a stick of butter.

I thought the following was either crazy/wrong/impossibly untrue or some combination thereof:

no bread? preposterous. how will survive? what will I eat? now >> no bread. no problem.

sat fat? seriously? it will surely kill me quickly. now >> um, can you pass the butter please?

no juice? you're kidding. everyone knows juice is good for you. now >> no juice ever. easy.

no chronic cardio? but I thought long hours in the gym was the key. now >> strength training and high intensity.

canola oil is not good? impossible. EVERYONE knows canola is the good one, right? now >> wouldn't touch canola with a ten foot pole. coconut oil, ghee, lard, bacon fat, butter.

I think just wrapping my head around the whole idea. Going against CW and what is "healthy", getting away from chronic cardio, loving my sleep, eating as much as I want. I honestly would prefer to go home and try new recipes than go out and drink with my friends (this is bad cause Im 28 and single, haha)

I second a lot of what's been mentioned.

I went cold showers, cold as possible which still isn't quite cold enough, and now I'll never go back to hot showers. they're great in winter as well as the latest heat wave. morning and night. I look forward to them. I don't know what's wrong with me. maybe I'm worst case scenario preparing for an ill fated Alaskan cruise.

no more soap/shampoo. cautiously experimented for a couple of weeks, and after the oily factor went away, suddenly the bizarre became normal.

oils and fats by the heaping spoonful.

no more jogging as it now seems counterproductive to my goals, which was weird to wrap my head around. now just some of the irregularities of sprints and walking.

I avoided IF for the longest time because it sounded too hardcore and I would collapse in a pile of weaksauce, but just started it the past month and loving the results. I look forward to skipping meals almost as much as meals themselves, because of the long view.

Avoiding milk.

Cold showers rule, btw. It helps to start screaming half a second before the water hits you.

Eating gobs of coconut oil straight from the jar while someone watches is my fav. I did it in front of a colleague and then proclaimed "Well, I guess I've had 120% of my saturated fat RDA - OOPS!"

Cooking all but 1 meal per week. I used to find cooking to be ridiculously tedious but now I enjoy it and feel like I simply have no choice if I want quality ingredients.

Wrapping my head around the concept that I didn't, in fact, need to eat tons of fruit to Be healthy even though intuitively I knew it made me hungry and tired all the time before. I don't eat any fruit save the occasional treat of organic berries anymore and I feel a lot better.

I still think some of the exercises are crazy. Bugs are gross. Always have been. Can't wrap my head around those. And I only eat straight butter if melted, but I can't afford kerrygold or grass-fed.
