What Did Paleo Do For You?

As someone who is thinking about putting in a 100% commitment to Paleo I just want to ask the people on these boards what the Paleo Diet has personally done for them. I've read a lot of generalizations about health, energy, and wellness, but I want to hear the real stories of people who post here. Did the diet get you closer to a goal you were looking for? Suggestions for newcomers about what you would've changed earlier on to make the experience easier and more amazing. Thank you so much!

Here goes:

  • Lost 6kg (mainly fat/inflammation I believe) and maintaining weight at a 'normal' BMI
  • Higher energy levels (say 5%)
  • Sleep improved (combination of Vit d3 and better overall nutrition)
  • No more acid reflux at all, ever (put this down to not eating wheat)
  • Fewer zits (especially welcomed at my age!)
  • Hunger levels over the day much lower (can easily skip lunch now)
  • More hair and a bit thicker (quite a subjective judgment though)
  • An annoying tendency to berate people about their poor food choices!

Got my life back.

After 30 years of chronic fatigue syndrome dictating my life, the CFS isn't gone, but it's under control to the extent that I'm not constantly calculating whether I have enough energy to do this and that. This is a big quality of life issue!

No more IBS attacks (was just starting to get them) No longer look like a raccoon because of undereye circles (not that there's anything wrong with raccoons) No blackheads Better circulation - not cold all the time No burning feet in summer (what was that all about?) Lots of other little things.

Life is good.

Exacerbated my obsessiveness with food/eating disorder, exacerbated and/or induced hypothyroid symptoms, i.e. digestive symptoms, sleep problems, etc.

Just be careful about cutting too much out, getting overly obsessed, stressing about it, having it interfere with social life, etc.

It has helped me put on 16 lbs so far. Im sure its a mixture of muscle and fat but i started at 84 lbs so any extra weight is good weight. I have ulcerative colitis and this diet has let me absorb nutrients better- besides iron. That one is still givig me problems- i regularly get blood transfusions and iron infusions.

I decided to try paleo because i was around 52lbs over weight and had no energy EVER! I was also having daily headaches lasting from 20 minutes to 2/3 hours and i always had an upset stomach!

I did a 30 day detox/reset and lost a healthy 26lbs. Since then (around 4 weeks) i have lost another 28 lbs :)

I have bags of energy and feel great! I haven't had one single head ache since eating paleo and my stomach has been really settled with healthy stools (sorry about the detail) and no upsets!

I also feel like i am treating food with respect now and not comfort eating/eating for the sake of it!

Paleo isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle change!

Here's my list:

• Lost 7kg and lowered my bodyfat from 26% to 24% (I'd still like to lower that a bit) • Went from a Euro size 42 jeans to a Euro size 34-36! • Chronic fatigue is all but cured (I very rarely yawn in the afternoon now, before it was all I could do to stay awake!) • I fall asleep much faster and sleep better. • Fewer pimples (I never had much, but I now only get about 1 every other month or so) • Fewer mood swings (I used to become very disagreable once I started to get hungry) • My body hair (legs, arms...) has become thinner, blonder and softer - I shave every 2-4 weeks! • My head hair has become shinier and softer - and I only feel the need to wash it once a week! • Most of my digestion problems have gone away (I'm still working out the kinks) • My sweat doesn't smell anymore.

And, most importantly,

• My chronic and crippling joint pain has disappeared.

Good luck - and don't be afraid to play around with it to find what works best for you!

I guess I cannot tell until I get the results from my latest blood work, but in the meantime it has helped a lot to get rid of any bad food cravings I may have had, which I think it could be key for some people. Pair it with a big protein breakfast for best results.
