weird period/spotting?

Hi, I started Paleo 5 weeks ago. My cycle is 28days and I'm always on time, regular. I didn't get my period this week when I was supposed to, instead I had kind of spotting for just a day of brownish blood, so light that I can only see if I wipe with a tissue. I'm scared and confused as to what happened? Can anyone help? And no I'm not on BC nor ever have been.

UPDATE Just wanted to let you guys know that I did get my period yesterday. Normal and heavy as usual :) Minimal cramping though I must say. Usually I die of cramps every month. Thank you for all your help!

This may or may not have anything to do with going Paleo. Occasional menstrual cycle irregularities can by caused by numerous factors. First of all, if there is any possibility that you could be pregnant, a pregnancy test is warranted. If not, simple tracking and observation of your cycles is all that is needed for now. If you encounter cycle abnormalities that continue for longer than 3 months (skipped, short, or long cycles) you should see your doctor for a hormonal evaluation. For the majority of cases, these are minor glitches which will spontaneously resolve.

I had break through bleeding too the first mth following the start of Paleo. The first 2 mths was spotting and then full blown periods every 15 days. I never had this happen in decades of being on the pill. I got off the pill and over the next few mths it evened out to every 28 days. I have noticed that HIIT (chin ups) training gives me breakthrough bleeding. I have fibroids...wonder if ab work causes evacuation of them or do they get re-abosrbed. Either way Paleo was causal for sure.

Like the others said, it could be "normal" hormonal fluctuations.. I had an episode last April, where (without getting too graphic) basically my lady doctor told me, after a few days, to go to the ER because she was afraid I might hemorrhage. All my levels were fine (Red Blood count, etc.), and everything returned to normal shortly there after, and have been perfectly fine ever since. When I asked what could have caused it, she said sometimes those things just happen!

My first cycle on paleo was a week early and different from the "usual". I also panicked because I was spotting early (OMG pregnant? OMG cancer?) and then my period came as normal 24 hours later. Perhaps just a change in hormones or something. If you are worried though, see a doctor. Don't ignore it.
