UTI and Paleo Diet ?

started Paleo eating (strict) 16 days ago after years of very bad SAD. Lost 12 pounds so far and feel pretty good now that I'm past the first week. Yesterday get pain after urination and urge to go. Haven't had a Urinary tract infection in 15 years. Don't think it is intercourse related just because husband and I have (strange?) habit of showering pre and post lovin 99% of the time. Went to dr. today and initial pee in cup test showed a little blood, ketones, and something else (i forget) said did seem like UTI and they would send off to lab and sent me home with nitrofurantoin.

Could UTI be related to my change in diet? bad coincidence? Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks!

Add fermented foods. I'd go for some full-fat kefir, sauerkraut, some fruits/tubers.

Hi Paula, did you get relief from more water? Try anything else. I am having similar symptoms.

not going crazy with proteins, and have always been a decent water drinker along with very weak brewed tea. But I will up intake for sure - thanks!

I used to get bad UTIS before paleo. Haven't had one since. Make sure to pee after sex though, as this is an imporant preventative measure.

If you are eating very high protein, that can be a diuretic and you may be dehydrated and it's easier to get a UTI with more concentrated urine. You need to up your water consumption, especially if you have cut out fruit. Hope you're feeling better!

Paula,

Did the answers work for you? My husband recently is experiencing the same symptoms. We've cut his sugar more and introduced cranberry capsules. It seems to have improved a bit, but not completely.

Any other thoughts on this?
