UK Paleo Community

Commented on February 12, 2015
Created September 21, 2011 at 10:45 AM

Trying to discover the extent of the Paleo community in the UK, where are the hotspots? numbers in or around our location.

OK so if you stop by and are from the UK please leave a note stating where you are and what your personal experiences are. We're located in Ilkley, West Yorkshire so particularly interested in hearing from people in our area, though of course equally welcome those from further afield.

Hi Tom, your pretty much there with lamb though as you will know it's not cheap. Beef, well the majority of Beef in the UK is not grass fed as this would be extensive farming. Unless specifically stated on the labelling you will have to assume it's from intensive stock, this means it will have been fattened on concentrate. This can be anything from corn, other grains, bakery waste, candy...basically anything cheap that's high in sugar or carb which as you know are effectively the same thing. Pork is even harder to find good sources of.

Hi Diana yes we are here and working hard to develop a UK paleo community. Mike and me went primal some time ago. First like you it was about the food and exercise, weight loss and as you say, the enormous health benefits but then it turned into a lifestyle from where there is no going back. Once you have experienced life without sugar goggles it's a revelation! Like wearing a pair of sunglasses that show you how you can be your best..and we want to encourage folk to live their lives fully. It's like everything we were taught about food is wrong and re-learning what works, paleo works kate

Hey guys! My wife and I live in Leeds city centre, we've been eating paleo (...ish, plus a bit of cheese and wine!) for a couple of months now and enjoying it immensely.

Regarding the comments about obtaining grass-fed meat in the UK, my understanding is that any fairly decent British lamb or beef will have been grass-fed, at least partially (you've all seen the lambs in the fields, surely?!). I think this is in contrast to more intensive, barn rearing which is more common in the US. People who have lived in both countries tell us how lucky we are to get such good quality meat, so I think this hunt for meat labelled "grass fed" is a bit of a red herring, as a result of browsing mostly American paleo sites.

Your lucky being close to a resource for green top milk, we have to travel some 30 miles for our nearest. Maybe you should approach M&S to see if they'd be interested it launching along side their latest monstrosity ;)

Enjoyed many benefits from paleo (86+ lbs loss and many health problems resolved); would love to hear from anyone near here and any tips on where to source decent produce

Hi guys,

We just designed and launched a free platform to enable Paleo/Primal people to connect locally and share the local resources they would recommend: food producers, where to buy pastured meat, fitness groups, etc.

Our goal is to surface the best resources for the Paleo community and then have them accessible in a structured way, and searchable by geographic location.

Most of the initial content for the site will get pushed later this week, but you are most welcome to already use what you want, from posting resources on the directory to creating local groups in the Local UK groups category.

And be sure to let us know what you think if you do take a look ;-) The Getting Started page is here: http://healthylivingtribes.com/pages/gettingstarted

Best, - Julien

Oh indeed it is a wonderful old town with evidence of a Palaeolithic paste being common place on many of the rock formations. I fell in love with the place and just had to up sticks and settle here. We believe it is a good base for Paleoworks and promoting this lifestyle.

Wiltshire. Originary from Europe, have managed to regain my pre-move to the UK figure thanks to Paleo, without 'dieting' (although my colleagues think I am on a diet, as I won't eat any biscuits or bacon sarnies or drink alcohol!). Not going back to SAD lifestyle, prefer to fast when cannot eat paleo!

Along with socials, diet and cooking, I'd like to discuss things like nootropics, circadian rhythm, light therapy etc. I can't find a group like this online, is there one out there?

Hi all, I just improved seriously my platform to make it easy for paleo people to connect, especially based on their location. The main aspect is to share Paleo resources that you trust, but I've now added a way to connect based on your location. You can see it here: http://healthylivingtribes.com/pages/membersmap

So if you want to connect with your fellow paleo or primal compadres around you in an easier way and share local tips and resources, I think you won't be disappointed ;-)

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any suggestions to make this Paleo platform more useful for the community. It's just a hobby project, but I'm quite passioned about bringing better ways to connect efficiently among paleo people, so it's up for the long-term and will be continuously improved based on your feedback :-)

How regularly does the London group meet up? I'm from Texas, but will be in London early summer.

Another in London! Originally from Scotland. There is a London Paleo/Primal facebook group, we've started having meet up and are looking for more members and to start a UK-wide facebook group and/or forum and/or community website

Hi I am in Swansea south wales

just doing some research at the moment and its quite intereseting. I didnt eat any meat or fish for 20 years (except rabbit when i worked on a farm in my 20's) Then with my second pregnancy i started eating fish.............absolutely divine. And last Thursday I had an urge for some rabbit again. So I went to the butcher and bought a Brecon rabbit and made a casserole................lovely.

So i am toying with the idea of trying this lifestyle with eggs fish rabbit veg fruit etc and see how it goes.

Still doing my research at the moment and enjoying it.

Thanks
