Thyroid OCD and Paleo

So I have serious OCD with compulsions since childhood, after stopping Zoloft in 2011 I have had fatigue and hypothyroid/adrenal issues. Would paleo diet alone fix this, or should I go on meds for thyroid as well. I heard once you do there is no going back, its for life because exogenous thyroid shuts down natural thyroid. Any ideas. I know kelp(iodine) and brazil nuts(selenium) could help.

Here is some recent bloodwork. Doc ordered Thyroid panel and here are my results:

Reverse T3: 27 ng/dL, Ref. range: 11-32 *have no idea how to interpret RT3 just heard from you guys to get the test.

T3 Total: 71 ng/dL, Ref range: 76-181 *Slightly out of range towards hypo.

T4 Total: 6.8 mcg/dL, Ref. Range: 4.5-12

TSH: 2.93, Ref Range .40-4.50 *In April 2012 TSH was 5.68!

DHEA: 480, Ref Range 110-510 *I am currently supplementing 25 mg DHEA orally daily and at the time of blood draw.

Doctor wants to start me on 5 mcg cytomel once daily. Any other suggestions or does this sound good?

I also am very prone to being anxious so I don't wanna rev my body up with artificial thyroid if it will just stress me out more, by causing more stress on the adrenals. Good diet suggestions. High animal fats with lots of veggies maybe some potatoes before physical activity. Will that help or hinder thyroid and adrenals that are functioning poorly? Any and all advice much appreciated. Thank you!

Low carb will hinder it. You should try magnesium for anxiety though.

Can you give an outline of your past and current diet?

I have both OCD and depression, as well as hypothyroidism. As great as the paleo lifestyle is it can improve both but it cannot get control them as well as medication.I have tried doing just a 100% paleo lifestyle but it still could not match medication.

I take cytomel and synthroid and it controls things very good. I feel superb.

Get your genome sequenced and look for methylation cycle problems. The solution could be as simple as a $99 gene test and a cheap methylfolate supplement.

I don't know about thyroid, but I have bipolar and anxiety which are both much better controlled with a Paleo diet. Whole30 diet works even better (really strict Paleo). The only meds I use now is Ativan as needed.
