Taste Changing?

Hi All,

I went very strict Paleo for Lent this year and have continued on that path since. One thing I have noticed is that any sort of poultry now tastes really "gamey!" Has anyone else noticed that? Theories?

Thanks!

me too, since eating chicken quarters with skin, skinless chicken breast tastes revolting.

Agreed. If I eat poultry now, it HAS to be dark meat. White meat has zero flavor.

i havent had that particular problem- are you buying higher quality chicken? because the pastured stuff tastes quite different than the CAFO stuff. my tastes have changed in other ways- vegetables have more depth of flavor, and everything is too damn sweet.

I'm from the mid-South, so Braum's is where you go for ice cream. In my past, Braum's was a twice a week thing. On a recent warm, spring day, I decided to splurge and headed out to Braum's. Once I started into the ice cream, my first thought was "I wish I'd gotten the bacon hamburger instead (minus the bun)."

I have noticed a few taste changes.

Some things I used to eat are way to sweet now, even good honey (I have to use a fraction of what I did in the past).

Other things are way too salty - especially prepared foods (so I do not have many, if any).

But, just today I had a wheat relapse and ate a couple of prepared samosa (wheat encased; I used to love them). But they were SO greasy - I am sure they are not cooked in EVO Coconut Oil! I will not be tempted again.

I don't know. Within a few months of paleo I actually lost my taste for most chicken and turkey, but I'll destroy some duck.

Chicken really does not have much taste, where as beef has significant flavor on its own. Maybe you were noticing that it was tasteless (and probably not using enough seasoning, its really best to think of the leaner poultry cuts as really high protein tofu).
