My digestive system definitely did not appreciate my nomming of tons of roast pumpkin seeds. Not sure about the others though, I don't eat a lot of seeds.

Right, I would also recommend buying it and grinding it yourself. Thank you Janknitz, I forgot that part. :)

Whole flax seeds don't digest, they come out the same way they went in (Sorry if it's TMI). So it's OK to grind them right before using, but they can go rancid if left ground too long. You can buy freshly ground flax and freeze it.

Try to stick with organic. You shouldn't go at a whole bag at once though, same with nuts. I agree with the above. Don't use the seed oils for cooking (canola, sunflower, safflower, etc...). Quinoa is the only seed that you should avoid... because it acts more like a grain. Flax isn't as much of a big deal as people make it out to be. You should never buy the pre-ground because it ruins it and can go rancid really quickly. People use flax oil as a supplement for Omega-3, but what's the point when you are never gonna get close to the level and quality as fish oil will give you. Hope that helps!

A good way to think about nuts and seeds is to imagine how you would come about them by foraging. So in the strict hunter-gatherer model, you would have to locate a nut tree, find a way to crack the nut open, and then eat the meat. Same idea for seeds. Most nuts and seeds we eat by the handful out of a bag don't occur in high concentrations in nature. That's why it's easy to over-eat them.

In moderation. Avoid seed oils for cooking, though.

Personally I consume flax seed a lot, and also nuts as almonds and sometimes peanuts. I read that the oil of sunflowers is not that healthy, if consumed to much. Sticking already for 3 weeks to a recipe plan, with ok results.
