Question: What/How does a wash cloth work on your skin?

I just been wondering how a wash cloth helps your skin as I have read a lot around the forum that many members just use water and a wash cloth yet still have amazing skin!!

How is this so?

I highly recommend using soap anywhere that gets stinky, but the rest of you doesn't need it.

skin brushes are really nice too, you just brush your dry skin before a shower, it helps improve circulation and rids of dead skin, then gently use a washcloth in the shower. I haven't used soap for years and have extremely nice skin, most times I don't even have to moisturize and have soft, supple skin

Hold on, so let me get this right....If I have dry skin on my face and body, and were to just use a washcloth and water....It would be better for my skin? o.O This is amazing! I have such crappy skin and I try to not spend too long in the shower and moisturise and all that but it never really seems any better... I feel odd using only water though...It definitely does keep you clean, yeah?

The only thing soap really adds to the equation is that breaks down oil, and makes the surface of the skin more slippery so that germs and grit can slide off more easily. If you rub with a wash cloth and water you can get the same effect just with friction, and the natural oils on the skin aren't stripped off in the same way. Soap can also screw with the PH of the skin, causing kind of mild chemical burns and redness.
