Paleo diet and getting off allergy medicine.

I have allergies all year long I take fluticasone twice daily, sudafed twice daily and another 24hr antihistamine the name escapes me, I have been on the Paleo diet for 3 month s and when I stop the medication my allergy symptoms are still there; is there a recovery period? I mean should I give it 10 days or something like that to see if the symptoms go away on their own? Has anyone out there had to give it some time off the meds to see results while staying Paleo?

No prednisone here thank God. I have already stopped the Zyrtec which is the drug name I couldn't remember, it's been 5 days, so far so good. Not totally better but at this time of year the fact I'm not sneezing constantly is a good thing. Thanks for the comments.

Thank you for your answer I certainly hope that is my experience w/o the cleanse but if I do not have results getting off the meds I'll give that a try.

Thank you for your answer, I hope I'm not like you but unfortunately it has been my experience that what works for others not necessarily work for me.

Stinging nettles worked for me for years. Claritin worked well also except that be evening I felt my vision go wonky. Since being on paleoish diet(Primal/Perfect Health Diet) I no longer suffer from seasonal allergies. I was afraid to give up the nettles at first, but am glad not to be dependent onthem.

("If you are regularly using a different corticosteroid taken by mouth (such as prednisone), you should not stop using it unless directed by your doctor. You may have withdrawal symptoms if the drug is suddenly stopped. Some conditions (such as asthma, allergies) may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped.")

For me, the antihistamines weren't working and I was running out of options. Paleo cleared it up to an acceptable level. I would definitely give it a try. 2 fluticasones, 2 sudafeds, and another 24hr is a lot of drugs to go cold turkey from. (A single sudafed puts me in a good mood.)

I want to share my personal experience regarding my seasonal allergies with you. I have seasonal allergies that start in mid-February and typically end mid-June. I have had them for over twenty years and perhaps longer. They are typically the worst during March - heavy Alder pollination. I started the Paleo diet early February this year hoping it might help but suffered a bad bout of allergies during March. Even medicated it was really bad. I noticed I didn't have as much mucus though which was interesting. By mid-April I was allergy free. I have had an occasional sneeze but that's it. I credit the Paleo diet. I am realistic that it doesn't completely remove ones allergies but I believe can significantly reduce them. I wonder how much internal conflict the SAD diet was having on my allergies too.

One last note, I haven't been sick once since starting the Paleo diet and I have three school age kids. I am definitely impressed with the immune boost Paleo has given me.

You may also consider weaning yourself off some of those drugs and then experiment a bit.

I fought allergies by eating a little bit of raw and local honey every day; even during non-allergy season. From what I've been told, it works like a vaccine to whatever pollen business you're allergic to.

My allergy symptoms disappeared after about 3 months on Paleo but I also did an herbal cleanse ( Renew Life FirstCleanse and CandiGone) so maybe the combo did the trick? I also had skin issues that were more stubborn and only went away after I went on the autoimmune protocol.

I've been paleo for nearly two years, and it has not positively impacted my allergies. I take a zyrtec every day year round, I'm currently using fluticasone twice daily, and I recently stopped taking a generic form of Singulair due to side effects (poor sleep, nightmares.) I've recently started taking stinging nettles supplements, but I don't know if they're helping.

I've heard that going paleo has helped other people with their allergies, but I know I'm not the only one who hasn't seen much improvement.
