Focusing on the issue of smoking vs. consuming, and without getting into any discussion about the pros and cons of using marijuana in general, I would say that cooking with and consuming pot avoids the intake of smoke and therefore spares lung function.
Smoking exposes the throat, trachea, and lungs to hot combusted materials, that, while seemingly less toxic than cigarette smoke, are damaging nonetheless. A non-athlete might not notice impaired lung function, but a mixed martial artists level of conditioning is held to a much higher standard.
On the other hand, consuming (i.e. cooking with) cannabis will create a much longer period of intoxication vs. smoking and larger quantities of substrate are generally needed. When consuming a food item prepared with marijuana, effects might not present themselves for several hours, but may last an entire day once they do.
Speaking to this topic in general, the "Paleoness" of pot has been discussed previously (http://paleohacks.com/questions/34903/is-marijuana-paleo-how-does-it-affect-fat-loss#axzz1e9asmJOc) but it is still an illegal drug in most places and discussions of recipes and other such related activities is best left somewhere other than PaleoHacks.
