I began the paleo diet yesterday (well really today, I will explain).

Right now, I am not working, so I thought I would take advantage of my free time to transition to a healthier lifestyle.

I have terrible ADD and am on medication that suppresses my appetite. I also am not used to eating regular meals, and am not a very experienced or good cook. Hence, I am used to not making time to eat, and am used to quick easy microwave meals.

I made a commitment to start paleo yesterday and to learn how to cook new and appetizing meals. However, I took my pill for ADD and forgot to eat yesterday. I fell asleep early, thinking I would make a big paleo breakfast.

I woke up this morning dry heaving. I made scrambled eggs and avocado, and have been trying to fight the extreme nausea I feel for about three hours. I also had some celery with pecan butter, and sucking on clementines and drinking coconut milk with a straw, just trying to see what will calm my stomach down and take away these chills.

It seems like skipping meals on paleo, at least transitioning, is not a good idea. Any other people on appetite-suppressant medication and doing paleo? I didn't realize that my body would have such intense reactions after changing my diet. I feel very weak and am not sure what to expect going forth and how to make sure I am getting enough of the right foods to keep the nausea away.

hi, skipping meals while changing any dietary regime can cause some issues. but this doesn't sound like it's related to paleo at all. you may just be sick. i'm not sure if skipping all meals yesterday had something to do with it. but take care of yourself first, and then try the paleo thing once you're not dry heaving.

Sounds like an illness to me.

Care to post a few days of what you typically eat? Perhaps we can help you make the transition in a way that won't be a shock to the system.

Should you have eaten with your ADD medication? Maybe not eating all day and then taking your medication isn't sitting well in your stomach.

When I first started Paleo, transitioning from low-fat SAD to high fat, high protein was a bit rough. Try not to overload on the fat until your body adjusts. For now, it sounds like you're just sick! Feel better!

Hold on a second.

Dry heaving while starting Paleo sounds an awful lot like gallbladder disease. If you're scarfing down fat in large quantities, then your gallbladder may be freaking out. Are you having any abdominal cramping?

If you are having troubles, and need to eat regularly, I suggest making a big, Paleo friendly meal when you feel better, and then portioning it into meal size, microwavable meals. Keep it simple, meat and greens. Frozen greens are fine.
