On Paleo, urine still yellow?...

Hey everyone.. So I've been on Paleo for about a month now. Doing really well, have treated myself once in a while but overall eating supper healthy.

Since I've been on Paleo, all I drink is water (I try to drink 2-4 L in a day, all depends on the day) with MAYBE 1-2 coffees a week (black), and two weeks ago I treated myself to a medium fountain pop. I figured me eating super healthy and drinking all this water, my urine would be coming out clear. It sometimes does, but more often it's coming out yellow..

Is this bad? Could there be something I'm eating that's causing this? (I eat pretty strict Paleo...) or is this normal?

better to have some colour (yellow) in your urine, if its clear you will probably just be flushing away all your electrolytes (which need to be replaced).

also Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) can make your urine yellow (usually fluorescent yellow tho)

Heh, unfortunately that's actually a rather nice navy blue. Sometimes life's little coincidences come together nicely, but I suppose the architects of the hex color system didn't have the wherewithal to make it BGR instead of RGB.

Clear urine is usually the result of the bulk of the waste product being just water. This isn't as "pure" nor desirable as it may sound. A healthy body is a machine and a machine produces waste. The waste that we produce that exits via urine tends to be of a yellow color (of varying shades, depending on the exact content and concentration). Drink to thirst and don't worry too much about the difference between #E5F29B and #DEF26D.

That said, colors OTHER than yellow should definitely be a concern. Black, red, white, etc. deserve immediate medical attention.

4L sounds like a lot to most people, but it's really not. If you urine is really yellow you may want to add water and/or reduce simple carbs.

Clear, colorless urine just means you drank too much water. Nothing more - your diet would have little to do with it.

If you take DIM, or eat beets, you may see orange-red urine.

If you aren't processing protein properly, you might see foam or cloudy urine and should talk to your doctor about it if you see it very often.

Any other color, see a doc.

Colorless urine is not normal! (Scientific wibble: clear and colorless are not the same thing.)
