Nada's disgusting, bigoted and sexist

I saw a post about male vs female life expectancy, focusing on the gap and the fact that men die younger.

User nada said "even if true, whats the problem?"

...are you kidding? what a disgustingly sexist thing to say. she is obviously very sick and bigoted, and doesnt belong here.

i have the question here: http://paleohacks.com/questions/181460/is-it-true-that-most-men-die-in-their-60s-and-most-women-in-their-80s-closed#axzz2Lkvrf0GW

could you imagine if someone said the same thing, but the genders reversed?

Deciding to test the theory, I posted a reply comment asking her if she would consider it a problem if the genders were reversed, and paleohacks closed the question and deleted the comment. So paleohacks mods apparently don't have a problem with someone saying that it doesnt matter if men die, but do have a problem if someones asks if they believe the same thing reversed. I thought this kind of site would be free from the pall misandrist feminism, but I guess not.

"Women are shorter than men on average." I don't find anything wrong with that statement. Am I being sexist?

There was nothing wrong with what nada said. "Women cannot run as fast as men on average." I don't find any problem with this fact. Am I being sexist?

First, take your drama somewhere else. Second, that question was bs, nada was calling out the op.

I think it's not really reasonable to move from disagreeing with someone about their statement about the discrepancy being a problem towards making hugely polemical and abusive comments. I agree with you that you're previous question was somewhat legitimate and shouldn't have been closed, but to claim that the statement reflect people hating males is absurd. You obviously have some contextual influence going there that influence your in reacting but that doesn't mean the things you're saying aren't just a little bit ridiculous, and offensive.

A difference in life expectancy isn't necessarily a problem. Saying that it's not a problem that men live shorter lives than women doesn't mean that it's not a bad thing that men die or that men live shorter lives per se. There are lots of biological inequalities that we don't think are a problem (e.g. that women can run less fast than men). Were it the case that men or women lived shorter lives because some contingent environmental problem caused one of the sexes to live much shorter lives then we might say there is a problem. But that might well not be due to the relative difference, but due to the fact that one sex were living less than they could do were the problem rectified. If it's just a deep-seated biological fact that men die sooner, it's not clear that we are mandated to work to make every man live longer so that there is less of a gap between men and women, rather than just work to increase life expectancy in general.

The great thing about a site like this is that people can have a difference of opinion...but it's just that, opinion...calling someone else out like it's a ???high noon??? shoot out is not how you get your point across, you use the tools given to you and cast your vote.

Truth.
