I will be moving to Canberra, Australia for 6 months (May - November) from the US and was hoping to get some suggestions on the following:

  • Grocery stores/Markets that fit the Paleo Lifestyle (maybe something similar to whole foods or trader joes)
  • Good Restaurants that offer gluten free and/or sustainable foods
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym
  • Outdoors activities such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, running, movnat type stuff, etc.
  • Paleo Groups or events

I will be staying downtown on Moore Street if that helps. Thanks for the feedback!

Try Eco Meats at Belconnen Markets for Aussie game meats. There's a few other butchers there that have gluten free sausages as well.

You could join the Paleo Meetup group. They could probably point you in the right direction, and you get to meet like-minded people.

I can't really say much more beyond that. I live in Wollongong and am unaware of how Canberra specifically fits with the 'Paleo Lifestyle' (?)... That thread should be helpful though.

I Hope you do enjoy the experience/do things as per you goals ;)

@hemanvt Hi, I hope this is not too late. Have you found everything you need so far? I am on GAPS Diet, very similar to Paleo. I get all the pasture-fed/organic meat (beef, lamb, pork), bones and free-range eggs from Saturday's Farmers Market. I find they have the best prices (most affordable) if you're buying pasture-fed and/or organic meat. I buy nitrate-free bacon from Eco Meat in Belconnen. I buy Inglewood Organic Free-Range Chicken from Coles in Belconnen. I get vegetables and fruits from Farmers Market, Choku Bai Jo, and Food Co-op. Food Co-op is just within walking distance, it is across the road from our neighborhood. (I am on Boldrewood St., not far from Moore St.). Choku Bai Jo is about 7 min drive. Lots of places for hiking around Canberra. The nearest climbing crag I've found is at Booroomba Rocks (granite). Feel free to email me (tivaniw@gmail.com) if you have any more questions.
