How old is your cat? You might try some tuna juice, or smearing on just a touch of her old food. Just make sure she doesn't go without food for more than 24 hours or cats can get very sick.

my cat loves raw and cooked fish, but I've definitely had cats that won't have anything to do with anything but processed cat food. My feeling is it's her life, she eats what she wants.

like I said down below, you gotta show them tough love too. Keep offering the raw meat, and if they refuse, take it away til the next day. Keep offering it, and once they get hungry enough they WILL eat it. You won't starve them to death, they just have to realize that what you are offering is the only choice they have. You control their diet. It's almost like parenting. You can't let the kids dictate the diet.

tough love is how it goes when switching. you offer the raw, and if they don't accept you remeowve it til the next day. then you offer it again, if they still refuse, you remeowve it til the next day, and so on until they get hungry enough to eat what you provide. you are the meowster of their destiny after all.

ack, cooked meat is very dangerous for cats! They need the taurine. You need to find a taurine supplement if they won't eat it.

BARF stands for either Bones & Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. See, you need to research what you are doing if you don't know the basics. Here's a forum to get you started: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawpaws/

I hate to tell you this, but if your vet OK'd this diet, you need to fire him. (Most vets have about 20 hours of "pet" nutrition coursework, taught by, guess who?) Like I said, if you love your cats, you need to research an appropriate diet. There is a reason cats tend to have kidney problems...go research that. And then look at your PUFA issue...and Ca/Mg/Zn...

Healthy cats need more than muscle meat and fat, especially growing cats... Have you considered barfing your cats? It's best for their health, longevity and will safe you money for the veterinarian in the long run.

i have her and her sister, i adopted them when they were about 4 months, she'll be one in december, and they were sorta big for kittens, they just loved to eat whatever they get their hands on, they used to go throw my roomates room and tear open a bag of dorritos and eat it. they get bacon for breakfast and some roast lamb, lunch they have lamb cuts and dinner roast chicken, i also give them some dates very occasionally.

Grassfedkid, you need to SERIOUSLY research Raw feeding. Your cat's diet is not nutritionally sound. I'm saying this as a longer term Prey Model raw feeder, not as someone who is disagreeing with what you are trying to do.

Please read up and join a few good Raw forums for help.

I'm not sure if my dog is strictly Paleo as I changed her diet to this before I even heard of Paleo and I'm still learning what "real" paleo actually is. She used to live with my mother when my rental didn't allow pets and got really fat on dry food, leftovers, and these dog meatball things that had lots of rice in them:

is-your-pet-paleo?--share-their-before-and-after!

When she finally moved back in with me I switched her to a BARF diet and supplement this with raw chicken necks, RMBs, plus an egg and/or can of sardines once a week. She lost weight and now looks like this:

is-your-pet-paleo?--share-their-before-and-after!

She has much more energy and looks younger (she's 5 years old, but gets mistaken for a puppy). We usually prefer rabbit BARF, but sometimes when that's not available go for kangaroo as those two are the least processed options/more likely to be wild-caught. Except when we go with kangaroo she has to get about double the amount as it's such a lean meat.

We switched our dog to the BARF diet a few months ago. He lost a lot of his chub after just a couple of weeks. He also loves the food we give him much more than the Science Diet we used to feed him. A lot of raw burger and bits of steak we trim off of our grass fed cow along with raw ground chicken and turkey and non-cooked bones. When we can get it, we also feed him offal from various animals. Our dog is a bit weird in that he will eat almost any fruit or vegetable we give him - except for broccoli and celery. He just won't eat those. His favorite snacks are carrots, zucchini slices, and oranges/clementines. He also loves tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, raw eggs, etc....

As Marie has pointed out, you should only feed your pets raw food and uncooked bones.

Here's Osu, still a bit chubby at this point (yeah, we like to take pictures of him in front of dog poop and 'no dogs allowed' signs here in Europe. He just turned 7 yet people think he is only 2 or 3 because of how he looks and his energy level. Feeding him the BARF diet had done wonders for him. No more ear infections!:

My cat refuses to be paleo. If I put out raw meat for her she will meow and cry and beg for her other food and give me evil looks like I have put out poison for her. She doesn't do well with change though. I've tried putting out various meats with her regular food and she just ignores them.

Adopted a kitten a month ago and switched her from the kitty junk food at the SPCA to a raw diet. Our previous kitty died at age 12 from lung cancer in January... I had switched her to raw a few months before that after going paleo myself but alas, too little too late :(

Our kitten (Zee) eats a rotation of the frozen Nature's Variety pucks plus some top quality meat from our CSA -- wing tips, chicken necks, liver.. trying to get those little kitten teeth used to chomping on raw bones too, not just the ground stuff. She loves to nom on them but is mostly just making a big mess so far :P

The biggest change was that her fur went from dry and dull (PS. cute kitten video) to super sleek and shiny! Very happy to be raising her with the right diet from the start.

I feed our dog Orijen and supplement with some coconut oil. He also gets bacon/beef drippings a few times a week.

Took him off the heartworm/flea meds when we got him 2 years ago. He no longer has itchy skin and is SUPER fit. No fleas last summer, which was super wet where we lived.

Folks think he is a puppy--but he turned 4 in April.is-your-pet-paleo?--share-their-before-and-after!
