Quorn as an alternative meat

I read that mycoproten, a very specialized vat-grown product, is the main ingedient of Quorn. Any comments?

I just realized the American version doesn't use free range egg whites and uses conventional instead. Also I just wanted to mention that everything but the mince is full of wheat and other nasty extracts and fakey crap. Yuck I can't believe I used to eat this stuff. Sigh...

I've never seen this stuff in Canada, it looks as anti-paleo as a loaf of bread to me -- worse even. Plus the name 'Quorn', about as appetizing as 'soylent green' (supposedly made out of soy and lentils, but actually made out of something much more paleo than that ;)

I stay away from most processed foods, especially isolated proteins but some people here eat whey protein or egg protein do I can't speak for everyone. Looking at the ingredients in the simple mince the only thing that stands out for me is the malted barley extract, which is a "natural" MSG ingredient. I would steer clear. This isn't very paleo, and from what I remember when I was still vegetarian, per pound this stuff is pretty damn expensive too.
