How do you respond to : Paleo Diet is just like all the other low carb diets...!

So whenever people ask about the diet I am on, I tell them about Paleo and every single time I get oh - well that's like any of the other low carb diets.

Do you ever feel that you cannot get through to some of these people> If you have gotten through to people- tell us your story!

Well, for one, you can tell them that paleo needn't be low-carb. Depending on which flavor of paleo you do, tubers, fruits, and dairy may or may not be part of your diet and can mean you're on a moderate or even high carb diet.

Other than that, I think it's mostly telling folks it's all about avoiding foods that we haven't been around long enough to adapt to. So we typically avoid the kind of fake foods (low-carb and not) ... no Atkins bars or Zone bars or sugar alcohol dressings etc for us!

I say it isn't low carb its NO GRAIN! Especially M. effin wheat!

I don't really get the "It's just like all other low-carb diets!" but I do get, "You got a sandwich without the bread, but you still got hashbrowns? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?"

It seems a lot of people equate "no grains" to mean no potatoes. So maybe they see all carby foods as grains?

I just say that I don't eat sugar, wheat, or vegetable oil. I rarely even mention "Paleo" anymore.

Paleo goals are not just weight control but also maximizing nutrients, minimizing inflammation... It's not just about the macronutrients... grains/legumes are toxic at worst and poorly digested at least, and starches are non-essential fillers that prevent people from eating nutritious food.

Yeah, I tire of the "you mean like Atkins?" response...
