Has anyone seen a doctor who suggested Paleo?

Have you personally seen a doctor who was a Paleo proponent? I'm under the impression that there aren't many doctors who are, but I wholeheartedly think they need to be.

I am in South Florida. Quit med school and practice Chiropractic now with my true passion being the paleo lifestyle. Avid crossfitter and am amidst beginning nutrition programs to three different crossfit affiliates in the South Florida area. Pretty much studied under one of Cordain's boys. Robb Wolff is coming out with a physician program in the near future. We need to spread the world to save us! Karen, I will email you my info. Thanks for all the interests.

I've been educating my family doc about Paleo and she's been very open to it. She's started introducing it to patients with autoimmune issues, albeit in a general sense.

Gary Taubes was on a very popular national radio program here in Canada yesterday...so there's hope.

I have a doctor who recommended a grain free diet to me when I had bad acne and his rationale for cutting out grains was exactly along paleo lines.

He was totally on board with regards to leveling out insulin levels for preventing many diseases and he told me that anyone or any culture that is grain-free tends to live longer.

His recommendation along with a 30-day cross-fit challenge had me started on paleo about 4mths ago.

I have seen my doctor since and he was really interested in paleo (not knowing much about it as his dietary wisdom has come through other means) and he took down the details for Loren Cordain and Robb Wolf's books so he could follow them up...but essentially he thought that the nutritionists and Australian dietary guidelines were way off on recommendations of a high carb/low fat diet

We should probably create some sort of list/map of these doctors, because I have never encountered a single doctor who even wanted to talk about diet at all, much less this. I did talk to a chiropractor recently who said he told all of his patients to take D3 and get off of grain, so that's something.

My doctor hasn't used the word "paleo" in my presence, but he advocates a diet of meat and vegetables, and thinks grains and legumes are unfit for human consumption.

I went to see a doctor at a clinic in Los Angeles shortly after I moved to California and I asked him how I could lose weight. He said, "Cut out all sugar." That's all he said. He didn't suggest full-on paleo, but it's certainly better advice than reduce red meat. ;)

My doctor freaks out when she hears the words "coconut oil." I tried to tell her about the WAPF way of eating, and she just about tore my head off. Now that I've gone Paleo, I don't plan to discuss any food-related stuff with her, as I'm now on my way to changing doctors, thanks to the link on this discussion.

She advocates supplements over drugs, but still won't leave the FDA/NIH diet guidelines. I'm leaving her instead.

my Midwife told me to nix grains completely from my diet. She said nothing about nixing dairy, but I see dairy as a gray zone anyway. Grains are the main concern though in my opinion, i use dairy as a calcium supplement and also yogurt has many health benefits that I am very interested in, seeing as I am a woman and generally have many "womanly issues" that yogurt helps with :p

This list form Jimmy Moore might be of help http://lowcarbdoctors.blogspot.com/

I also had the idea of having a web-accessible list specifically for Paleo-aware or "Paleo-friendly" doctors, even registered a domain name for it, but alas, have not had the time to develop it.

interesting that this should come up now. last week i went in to my neurologists office for by bi-annual check up on my MS. i told them how great everything was, how i had been exercising, and had no symptoms and felt like was was 20 years old again. my doc was psyched until she asked about my meds. i told her that i was no longer taking them, and she kind of flipped out. i was expecting it to be a controversial decision, and i was expecting her to try and explore other drug therapies with me or something, but she didnt. she actually said to me, "WHAT?!? well, i dont know what you want us to do for you then..." i told her that i ahd been eating paleo, and she rolled her eyes, threw down her pen, interrupted me to tell me that "cavemen live to be, like, 30." then she stood up, opened the door to her office and was about to dismiss me when i had to ASK HER to do my physical exam. she did concede that i looked great and in fact one of the lesions in my brain scan had disappeared. but, she was extremely angry with me.

needless to say, im looking for a new paleo-friendly neurologist who specializes in multiple sclerosis in the boston and north of boston area, if anyone can hook me up.

i do see an incredible chiro who does crossfit-like exercise and eats paleo. he is pretty much the first person my husband and i call with medical questions and in six years, he has never been wrong.
