First Week Symptoms?

I am an 18 year-old female, senior in high school, and I started the Paleo Diet on Monday of this week, so 4 days ago. My coach, who is a crossfitter, told me that I may experience symptoms like headaches in my first few days of Paleo. But so far, besides hunger and cravings, I'm not experiencing any of that. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing it correctly. Here's what my meals/snacks have looked like:

Monday: Breakfast- scrambled eggs Snack- pistachios Lunch- turkey salad, tangerines Dinner- I forget

Tuesday: Breakfast- banana with almond butter Snack- sunflower seeds/pistachios Lunch- salad, tangerines, apples Dinner- Chicken Salad

Wednesday: Breakfast- Banana with almond butter Snack- sunflower seeds/pistachios Lunch- Grilled Chicken and sweet potato, tangerines, pear Dinner- Hamburger patty sauteed with zucchini and mushrooms

Thursday: Breakfast- Chocolate Banana Hazelnut Smoothie (Almond milk, Cocoa powder, hazelnuts) Snack- sunflower seeds, pistachios Lunch- leftover dinner
Dinner- steak and salad

(I also drink lots of water throughout the day.)

Is this balanced? I made sure to stay within the Paleo boundaries! No cheating whatsoever. Why am I not experiencing any withdrawal symptoms? My skin has cleared up, and I don't feel as hungry as usual. I don't worry about portions, I just satisfy my hunger.

Well said. I get tired of hearing people try to automatically make paleo VLC. I tend to be moderately low carb, but have high carb paleo days also.

It depends on what your goals for going paleo are. I've read that people who are trying to lose weight are better off reducing the nuts/fruits. If you are trying to go into ketosis, from what I gather, you want keep your fat ratios high. I would still suggest adding more veggies into each meal since they are low in carbs and are good for you.

What do you suggest when it comes to nuts and seeds for snacks? Do I eat too much nuts/seeds?

I think the symptoms people are taking about have to do with something called "low-carb flu." Since you are eating carbs in the form of bananas and tangerines, you aren't very low carb. It is usually the people that go VLC that suffer these symptoms. Paleo does not invariably mean low carb, and your diet is certainly paleo.

if you feel great, keep doing what you're doing!! i mostly just eat a lot of meat for all of my meals as this works for me and keeps my fiber very low. i haven't experienced and negatives since going paleo either- all positives.

It definitely varies from person to person. I'm on my 3rd week and the most I experienced was minor headaches (I'm thinking it was from lack of sleep) and very minor cravings. I thought that maybe I wasn't doing something right too, but it turns out, it just varies.

Keep doing what you're doing. I would suggest adding more veggies into all of your meals, just to get better macronutrients. If the results your seeing are positive, then don't worry. :)

Welcome to paleo!
