Eau d'garbage juice. Paleo Stink? ( TMI... maybe)

So I've been Paleo for almost 5 months. (strict) I have lost nearly 50lbs, and am thrilled. I feel great, my unexplained rash has completely disappeared. No question, I believe in this lifestyle, and will maintain it.

My question however, is Does following the Paleo diet make you smell? When I first started I noticed an eau d'garbage juice aroma lingering around my underarms. I attributed this to detox. That stench has subsided (thank god), but now I sweat constantly? Even watching television I sweat. Not beading of my forehead or anything, but I forever have pit stains.

Now I might be wrong but I would think that the fatter I am, the hotter my body would be and I would have sweated more before??? What is going on?

My BMI is 27, so I'm not horribly overweight, I bathe daily, and I've never sweat like this before. I'm not even hot and I'm sweating.... What's up?

My GP tells me I am perfectly healthy, my blood work is fantastic... I'm stumped!

I think Kruse is a nut, but I also think cold dips are well worth trying. I've been scouting for a suitable tub I can put in my backyard (as I don't have a bathtub fit for the purpose), and am looking forward to experimenting with it. And since I'm like the OP, trying to keep my aromatic paleo-keto funk at bay? I'm glad to hear cold might help me with that. Thanks!

I had totally rancid breath in ketosis, no matter how much mouthwash--bummer for my boyfriend, sorry babe!

sounds like keto-stink to me then. I can usually smell ketosis in my sweat and in my urine at those levels of carb.

Probably just ketosis-stink. Please don't throw rotten tomatoes at me kruse-haters, but my ketosis smell and excessive sweating went away when I started cold dips (aka CT.)

Also, I find using the rock-salt deodorant helps with the smell too.

" Signs that you are becoming Leptin Sensitive (LS) again

A. Men will notice quick weight loss. B. Women will notice mood changes first (calmer/sleepy) and their sleep will improve. Their clothes will fit differently but weight may not change drastically initially because of effects on the pituitary. This will change too if they continue moving forward. C. You will notice a change in your sweating pattern. D. You will notice you have better recovery from exercise and your energy levels seem to have risen. E. Your hunger is gone and so are your cravings. F. When you awaken you will feel very refreshed like you slept well. Generally when the signs are all present, I then really push HIIT exercise with heavy weights".

This is a shot in the dark but maybe you are becoming Leptin sensitive?

How low carb are you going?

On a "regular" diet I don't need to use deodrant. In ketosis I stink like a Paleolithic tramp.

Maybe that's the way we're supposed to smell. I'm looking forward to them releasing "Lynx Ketosis".

The body gets better at keeping you cooler the more fit you are. You will notice a fit person sweats more than an overweight person doing the same activity. Sweating is a good thing, but if it's excessive there are ways to deal with that. Definitely ice baths (especially before bed if you're like me and your body turns into a furnace at night) will help you sleep.

As for the smell and pit stains...could it be a reaction to your deodorant? I sweat and smell more when I use it than when I don't, because it irritates the glands. Try a day or so without and see if you notice a chance.

The smell is bacteria. It's a reaction to the skin and the sweat mixed. Try drinking more water, or adding some electrolytes. Just see if anything changes.

Otherwise, it's summer now, so you have a few months of tank-top season to get it sorted before you have to suffocate your pits (and possibly your coworkers) again. Good luck!

I agree, its the ketosis. I'm a US surgeon and recent paleo/xfit full-blown convert x 5 months and when I was going through the core of my detox I would put up a stink something fierce. As we speak I'm winding down a 6 day tour through Paris and have been decidedly eating unpaleo for almost every meal (give me a break, first vacation in 1.5 years and in Paris for heavens sake) and the smell is completely gone after a few carb-loaded meals. Back on the paleo in 36 hours when I touch down on home-turf and I've warned my colleagues to get ready. Til then give me more f-ing chevre and baguettes you bloody French fools.
