I was wondering if anyone can comment on why they think the Kresser approach for gut healing does not help acne? I realize that acne is a complex imbalance.
Someone posted that Chris Kessler's approach to healing skin conditions (low FODMAP/autoimmune protocol to start, low gut irritant foods, etc.. and then adding foods back in) Was NOT effective in healing acne. Of course Kresser says he has a lot of luck with this and obviously has a clinical practice and has observed that a gut-healing protocol helps some people. I don't want to do such an extreme approach if not necessary. I do have SIBO tho, which modified auto immune protocol is supposed to help, and my dr. has a specific approach for treating SIBO that I am undertaking.
I have only been strict paleo for 1 week and working on adding nutrient dense foods but I have to avoid bone broth and oysters because my immune/gut is very compromised. I am working with a holistic Dr. to heal my gut and take probiotics and Carlsons Cod Liver, as well as special herbal formulas. So far the biggest change is that my forehead is less oily and skin feels a little softer, but that is it so far!

I'm in my 30s and stopped having the horrible acne issues after I reduced: sugar (NO SUGAR), cheese from cows (I can now handle this occasionally), gluten, any makeup other than mineral make-up WITHOUT Bismuth. No alcohol on the skin (no toners or astringents). Moisturize with grapeseed oil. Mineral make-up has zinc, a natural sunblock. Don't put sunblock on your face. I also take Vitamin E capsules and also break open the Vit E gel Capsules and massage the E into the undereyes and corners of my eye. I'm 32 and get carded every time :).

A year ago I had severe dermatitis and digestive issues but pretty good skin, never had acne. Once I started paleo, the digestive issues went away. A few months later i discovered the autoimmune protocol and the dermatitis cleared up pretty quickly. But I was surprised to find that i started breaking out on my face and it steadily worsened. about a month ago, I started using Finacea azeleic gel (15%)and the acne lesions improved. Last week, I started taking vitamin E and biotin and my skin is looking really good, the acne seems to be clearing up.
My theory: I used to be on the CW healthy diet which consisted of lots of whole wheat products, leafy greens, almonds, etc. I still eat the leafy greens but have completely cut out wheat and almonds due to allergies. Wheat germ and almonds both are really high in vitamin E, so I've been deficient and my acne got worse as I became more deficient over time. Just my theory for now. Once everything looks really good, I will get off the azeleic gel to see if my skin stays clear.
