I am taking Risperidone for almost two years, I have a bipolar disorder. I am thinking about stop taking the risperdal and go for a natural treatment. I am still not 100% paleo but it's in progress. can a high-carb paleo diet without gluten, sugar and refined oils with dietary supplement of omega 3 cure or help the bipolar disorder? also, I want stop taking Risperidone but I don't know how to do that, my doctor told me that I must take the Risperidone forever, but I dont want to.

I would encourage you to improve your diet so that you can reduce your medication. I'm not familiar with different meds so I can't comment on August's response. Use caution when eliminating meds quickly without the medical guidance.

You probably need a new doctor. Risperidone for bipolar is, in my opinion, irresponsible. This is a very strong anti-psychotic.

Ketones are known to be neuro-protective, so I would suggest at least looking into ketogenic diets, but even a high carb paleo diet will be better than most of what is out there. Gluten seems to be a big trigger.

I have been med-free for a year. I was taking 6 medications (including Risperidone), and without them I feel better than ever. Currently, I take Nature Made Multivitamin for Women, 2000 UI Vitamin D, Nature Made Vitamin B Complex, Nature Made Triple Omega X3, Oil of Oregano X3, Olive Leaf X3, Turmeric X3, Glucosamine/Chondroitin X3, Calcium 250mg.

My usual diet is: For breakfast I eat 2 bacon, 1/4 avocado, 1 egg. Snack 1 is usually a piece of fruit and some almond butter. Lunch is 3oz of meat and 1 to 2 cups of vegetable. Snack 2 is 1 oz jerky and 1 oz nuts. Dinner is 3oz of meat and 1 to 2 cups of vegetables. Snack 3 is a hard boiled egg and avocado.

Read Your Drug May Be Your Problem by Peter Breggin MD and David Cohen. My doctor suggested http://www.truehope.com/new/ to simplify my supplement regimen.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
