I am new to paleo and don???t often exhibit my diet ideas and thoughts to friends. My girlfriend who got me into Paleo lifestyle on the other hand, is always posting articles/links to SAD habits and foods that I know most of her friends follow. Most of the time her posts on FB have a positive message but sometimes I think she can get a bit out of hand when she posts studies with sarcastic comments like ???no wonder this??? or ???Wow, shocking???. Although it???s fine to voice opinion do any of y???all ever get called pretentious?

I was very annoying in the beginning. Because it was like, wow I know stuff that everyone needs to know! I soon found out that it is easier to convert a Hassidic Jew to Cthulu, than to convince anyone to give up bread. Or that maybe, just maybe, what they were eating was making them sick. I've since learned to shut up. Well, not really. But I say less than I used to. What's interesting to me is that normal (non-paleo) people are getting many of the messages that paleo conveys (gluten is bad/sugar is bad/lipid hypothesis is bunk/vit D and sleep are good/Grass fed is good). I stick to that.

Your GF is breaking the number one rule:

The first rule of Paleo is you DO NOT talk about Paleo

Yes, but it has nothing to do with Paleo. :)

As with all deviant pursuits, there are many people who will put you down for publicly sticking to your guns. Is this due to envy because they lack confidence in their own ability to operate as individuals? Is it due to contempt for social deviancy as a petty attempt at self-expression, so that your little "Paleo-shpiel" is little more than a statement of dietary hipsterdom?

Maybe both, but who the hell cares? I feel fantastic. As long as you're open to discussion without ever being evangelical, anyone who calls you pretentious for doing your own thang is either too stupid to do it themselves or too afraid to try.

She can post whatever she wants and shouldn't be called pretentious. Seriously. I've encountered so many people recently who think that facebook is a place where all their friends go to post things that are relevant to only one person. Which is them. Never mind all their other friends interests, differing viewpoints or personal successes. Everybody thinks that all their friends posts should be about them.
Let her post. Don't tell her it is pretentious. She is enthusiastic about something she cares about. She doesn't have to cater to the whole worlds opinions. If we all did that all we would see is pictures of cats all day.
