Anyone else put-off by the condescending & self-important tone of Patrick's PaleolithicDiet.com emails?

Just curious.

Please don't tell me to unsubscribe if I don't like it - I'm aware of that option. I'm just wondering if it's only me who feels this way.

-1 for being so spineless as to need to start a new account to ask this question. Fair question I suppose if that's how you feel and need some sort of validation for your own feeling but be courageous enough to stand up and be counted if you feel the need to express your personal negative feelings about the guy who runs this site.

Aye, 100 people read something and can get 87 different perceptions of the material. Everyone has a personal style, people should not judge. Human communication is a complex matter.

Agreed. High five @miked. I believe in telling it as it is, not walking on egg shells afraid of hurting someone's feelings. We need solutions, not excuses.

Looks like I'm the first moderator up on this lovely Saturday morning. I'm expecting one of those "*sigh"s from Patrik ....

What's amazing about that? The definition of the word perception only includes the listener. And it's not an answer, it's a comment.

Is it weird that I pulled a Jack Kronk and thought: "I wonder if this is Patrick ... making another account ... to ask this question ..." but then I thought better of it and thought I was being silly. Jack, said with all due respect. :)

Email is one of those "faceless" mediums where interpretation of tone depends as much on the recipient as the sender.

Personally I find the emails chatty and amusing.

I don't think there is a condescending or self-important tone to his emails. So, no the emails do not bother me.

I don't know what you're seeing that's condescending. But if you think he's being harsh that's too bad. Sometimes things in Paleo and need to sound harsh because we're advocating a big lifestyle change. People often get defensive when someone is telling them can't ever have the tasty poison that they love. If you want excuses go buy Oprah's magazine. If you want answers then stay here.

I think it's his communication style and I, for one, don't find it offputting a bit. It actually appeals to me.

One thing I have learned from being online for years and years is to never place any attitude that might be coming from me onto communications I read. I know that the way I interpret something will definitely depend on the day I'm having.

I think the tone is fine. Also, it's a new venture so I'm sure patrik is still tweaking. I think criticism might be better received if not for words like "incendiary" and "self-important" which would cause most ppl to immediately get defensive. #justsayin

I just re read it and can't pick up a condescending tone. In fact I hear a bit of snark which I think most paleo folks have in the way they communicate. He's kind of funny yet totally informative.

And dude, it can take awhile to find one's voice and tone when writing newsletters. For that matter, when writing anything for public consumption. Give him a break! He will probably overhaul that thing a shit ton of times anyway. I only takevissue with the format but I know he's just starting this.

I dare you to write it better....said with respect of course. My feeling is if you want to be critical of it then you best be prepared to show how you would improve it.

I dig the way he writes. I don't necessarily find it condescending... I was just reading his latest message this morning and thought that the way he writes helps make the science behind all of this easier to understand.

I just started receiving emails from him and had a very similar thought on the first one I read. Not a big fan at this point, but I have to give the benefit of the doubt since I have no context to go off of.
