So my 3yo son loves SuperWhy on PBS. We only let him watch about 30min of TV per Day. He always picks SuperWhy, or the beloved Dinosaur Train (man I love that show). Thank you TiVo.
Well, Friday's episode of SuperWhy was entitled King Eddie who loves Spaghetti. I read the description of the episode and it was about nutrition.... I was about to change it, but my son insisted we watch. I was ready to give a healthy choices speach, But to my suprise! There was no huge emphasis on grains!! They had big segways regarding vegetables and protein sources (meatballs, chicken, beans), but grains were only mentioned briefly in the end, as being part of a "well balanced diet"
I was so impressed!

PBS kids is the only channel on TV that has shows I let my 3-almost-4 yo watch. But not Sid the Science Kid. He really likes Super Why but we haven't seen that episode. He gets 1 movie or 1 tv time per day. He usually picks a Thomas movie or Toy Story over watching TV.
I am glad of a good healthy food message but DAMN don't get me started on shows for kids. We could start a whole thread about crap our children are exposed to on TV, honestly food is the least of my concern compared to the other stuff he would be taught on mainstream "kids shows".
Never knew I would end up being such a "different" parent- from weird diet ideas to limiting TV to planning to homeschool- I get quite a hard time from my husband's side of the family. But it will be worth it in the end when my child grows up to be a smart, sensible, healthy, grounded adult.
