  1. If you have hypoglycemia (either reactive or fasting) could you please share any tips? What works for you?

I know I suppose to have one avocado per day. Are blueberries allowed?

  1. Also, were you officially diagnosed by the doctor and how did your doctor diagnose it? Did you have to take any special tests?

  2. Any useful websites for people with hypoglycemia?

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

yes endamame! Im going back to low carbs but my doc said no carb or scant carbs causes an insulin surge. I did not know that. I had low blood sugar when I wrotehat post and got confused. I need some suggestions too for snacks; for now I eat peanut butter.

Also, Im having a brain fart, those little pods with kida soft globules you push out. They will give them to you in some asian restaurants as appetizer. I feel like an idiot. When I eat carbs I strive to make it protein 40-50%, carbs 30% max, rest fay if possible.

Karen, I hate the idea of buying a glucometer - I faint at the sight of blood, I even have to lie down when my blood is drawn. Any tips on snacks, etc.? Thanks!

Go over to bloodsugar101 and take a look at the info for eating to your meter. This refers to eating according to the blood sugar testing done with a glucometer. While the site is geared to people with diabetes the considerations are similar. You need to learn what foods spike your blood sugar and then cause crashes. Testing at regular intervals after meals with known foods will teach you how YOUR body responds to different foods.

There's no one right answer for everyone. Some can eat berries just fine, others can't. Some can eat them or other carb foods if accompanied with fats or proteins. Some people can eat slow acting carbs in quantity, some need to limit total carbs period. Get a glucometer and some test strips and find out what works for you.

I had hypoglycemia as a complication of celiac disease. Difficulty absorbing nutrients from food meant I wasn't absorbing enough calories. Paleo diet is very helpful. You should eat frequent meals and snacks, with a lot of protein and healthy fats. Always keep snacks on hand, and eat whenever you have a break at work (or school in my case). Don't skip meals even if you aren't particularly hungry.

I was diagnosed after a glucose tolerance test. I limit carbs and eat protein and alittle bit of carbs every 2 hours or so. It works.
