Any Hackers in the Tallahassee area?

I'm moving back to Florida in a couple weeks, and since I wasn't eating Paleo when I lived there before, I was trying to scope out some resources. Does anyone know of places to get grassfed meats, pastured eggs, raw dairy, or local veggies in the Tallahassee area? Even in S. Georgia, since my Mom lives in Cairo. I know of the one co-op in Tallahassee, but I remember them being kind of pricey :-/

Thanks!!

I'm unsure of the name, but the location on Apalachee sounds right.

Is the seafood place you're talking about Mike's Seafood on Apalachee Parkway and Capital Circle? I'll definitely post on here when I start finding things once we get there. PS, go Noles!

Ok so for Beef I would recommend Deep Roots Meat. They are extremely reasonable. Half a cow last time I bought was $2 lb hang weight + processing fee. The only way to get good quality pastured meat is to buy in bulk. You can always go in with other people to buy.

For Chicken I like clear lake farm good quality well taken care off $3 a LB and she comes to tally every Sunday morning for pickups.

Raw milk....this is the thing...if you like goat milk, there is a lady named Trisha look on www.RealMilk.com wonderful milk and only $5 a gallon. If you prefer cow's milk you have to buy at new leaf for $9. Trisha also sells pastured eggs for $2 a dozen but it is sort of hit or miss if she will have them because she provides eggs for all her kids and grandkids:) I would do a CSA membership for veggies or just hit a farmers market. I do a lot of canning and freezing but I also have 4 people to feed.

Sorry this was a huge list but I know how hard it is to get started in a new city. Also, New Leaf has a farm tour every October and it is wonderful way to go see farms and try out what the have to offer.

I'm a Florida State student (currently home on summer vacation) and I never did much exploring because grassfed beef is not on a college kid's menu, but I know there's a Fresh Market north east of campus, a really good seafood market south east of campus, and a Whole Foods of unknown location being constructed shortly.

If you find any good deals, shoot me the info please, I could certainly use it.

For meals out, Tally also has a Ted's Montana Grill, which, to my knowledge, serves grass-fed beef and bison steaks.

The co-op is well worth it and can get you in touch with local farmers. Alternatively, try the farmer's market at Lake Ella on Wednesday afternoons. The co-op had grass fed beef from Orchard Ponds in Georgia for $5.99 / lb on sale (special of the week). They also had some grass fed NY strips and eye rounds. Why pay for processed food twice when you can eat half as much and feel/look twice as good?
