Acne on Paleo but not when i was vegetarian???

hi

when i vegetarian eating clean with eating mostly coconut flakes,nuts,brown rice and lentils everyday, my acne was non existent but now i am paleo eating ruminant meats,sweet potato, fish, my acne is worse?

why is this so if paleo is healthier?

Acne is not the only gauge of dietary health.

It's entirely possible and likely that you starved your body of necessary cholesterol/fat/other compounds necessary to make sex hormones during your vegetarian phase. No sex hormones (or limited sex hormones,) no acne.

How long have you been eating Paleo? As toxins leave your system, it isn't uncommon for acne to show up. This may be a temporary situation as your hormones are righting themselves.

As far as I know, acne is a sign of digestive problems/inflammation. It looks like your gut flora was completely altered once you went Paleo. I am not saying it got worse. It could be that it is just changing and, probably, in a good direction.

I think you should add probiotics and fermented foods to help your gut flora in this process. Sauerkraut (live) and real pickles might help. This might work or not - listen to your body before you follow any advice.

Also you might want to eat something raw with every meal to help your digestion.

Sometimes eliminating some foods would work for you as well.

You need to figure out what works for your skin. Maybe you can keep brown rice for a while?

I know I get acne from pork, and a little from cheese. Also bad sleep for longer periods tend to show on my face. So I go with the 'inflammation'-theory, something on the paleo-diet isn't ideal for you.

So maybe it isn't a bad idea to stop eating one kind of food for a week or two, and then skip to the other. You can skip all the vegetarian stuff cause you didn't experience acne on that diet, except maybe the stuff you've been eating more of now then you did then. :)
