Results of Paleo Diet?

Hi! I've been on the paleo diet for a week now, and looking at some of the posts on paleohacks it looks like most people are seeing some sort of tangible results after a week....however, I personally haven't seen much results except that maybe I get hungry less often. I think I've actually gained some belly fat. Is that normal? How long did it take for you to see results from the paleo diet?

Thanks!

I agree. 6 months would be awesome. 2 months min, but at least it's not 1 week or two.

I think 6 months is a better time frame to evaluate. Don't bother with a scale, just eat a good clean Paleo diet and relax about it. Don't overdo the exercise either, I prefer a simple weight lifting program 1 or 2 days a week mixed in with daily walking, slow jog perhaps and 1-2 High intensity Tabata sprint days (8 minutes total each day).

Aha. Well, the fact is that it will take time. Paleo isn't only about lowering body fat %, so I wouldn't expect flash results from it unless you've got lots of body fat to lose. Many women 'settle' around 20-25% body fat naturally, and for some it requires just too much calorie/carb restriction to go too low, and is thus unhealthy.

Good thing for you right now is that it's just too soon. Rule of thumb: a 'reasonable' try for anything health related is to give it 6-8 weeks minimum. Your body may do weird things on the inbetween, like make you feel cloudy-headed or actually clear mental fog. It might make you feel like you're starving or totally satiated. It might give you headaches or muscle aches, or relieve all of these. It might make you cranky, letharigic, or give you tons of inexplicable energy. It might make you increase water weight/bloat, or decrease water weight/ bloat. All of this can happen to crazy extremes, especially in the first 2-3 weeks because its trying to regulate itself and find a more natural rhythm. The one paleo offers through an extremely varied diet with adequate protein, good sleep, stress management, etc. By 6-8 weeks this should have evened out and you can see how amazing you feel or how much weight you've lost by then.

Paleo's a tool for you to use to better yourself. Its not a miracle. Give it time.

My main goal is to lower my body fat % and to generally become leaner and get a more toned look. I'm also exercising at least 30 minutes every day on top of the paleo diet to achieve my goals : )

I *doubt* that you've gained bellyfat in a week. However, if you are indeed concerned about gaining weight, you need to make sure you're keeping an eye on your portion sizes. Excess calories still encourage weight gain, regardless of where they come from. However, lots of calories in SAD eating hold no nutritional value, and here we try to optimize the nutrition that enters our body.

Now, for 'results' what exactly are you looking for? And what changes have you made? Paleo isn't about losing weight, necessarily. It's about balancing your system and healing yourself. Tell us your goals.
