We talk a lot about food and exercise here...but what are some of your Paleo-ish style goals that aren't about food and exercise?

I think a lot of us consider paleo as a journey to a "natural" way of healthy living that incorporates more than just what we eat and how we exercise. What are some of your goals that you have?

My goals:

  1. Go to bed earlier everyday
  2. Use the internet less
  3. Spend more time with my boyfriend
  4. Stop being lazy and finally finish that application to volunteer at a crisis nursery center
  5. Find better ways to deal with stress

What are your non diet and exercise goals? Trying out minimalist footwear? Getting more sunlight? Improving your posture? Sleeping on the floor? Being more conscious of BPA?

Great answer. I remember that same feeling....now I work for myself and can see the value I create and the payoff instantly.

I was going to offer the thick glasses I wear when I'm not wearing contacts to help with that fire but oh wait, that's not paleo haha...

Work. Work used to mean going out and finding/killing food, securing shelter, making clothing, etc. The value you were creating from your work was very direct and very clear. I doubt there were days when people just didn't "feel like" going to work. Now, working a corporate a job, I feel so far removed from the value I'm creating (if any). I am taking a more paleo-ish approach by leaving corporate life and starting a small business. Still a far cry from hunting/gathering, but I hope to feel a more direct link between what I'm doing and why I'm doing it.

Non diet and exercise goals - I love the idea of this post. I think some of mine are similar.

  • getting enough sleep, preferably with some consistency each day
  • getting more sunshine, spending more time outdoors
  • more socialising, surrounding myself with a good community of friends
  • more volunteering
  • becoming more aware about "green" living
  • start learning to meditate and yoga for stress relief - I keep putting this off

  • getting enough sleep/finding a way to improve my semi-insomnia
  • getting enough sunshine
  • finding a way to balance socializing with friends that doesn't revolve around food, alcohol, or tobacco
  • traveling to at least 2 new cities and one new country per year
  • finding a career that challenges me and doesn't make me miserable

Building meaningful social connections in my community, through cultural pursuits, volunteering and local activism. It's good to be part of a tribe, even better to be part of several.

I'm keen to start a fire just using sticks. Oh, and the stuff you said.

A lot of what has already been said...better sleep, less technology, getting more in touch with nature and like-minded people.

I've got an overarching goal building in my head and I am beginning to be more aware of all these little pieces that will help me get there. The overarching goal is probably the same as many other people's goal: Be the Best Me I can Be.

Both my wife and I would like to start hunting.

learn to forage.

Like others are saying, I should probably be more social. I work 2 jobs and have 3 kids, so hanging out has taken a back seat.

Most importantly I would like to simplify, get rid of the tons of crap we dragged with us across country that we don't need, etc.
