So....just how "Paleo" can we go?!

Be honest....how many of you have tried this, thought about trying it, or would be willing to try it?! With rising food costs and looming food shortages, would this be a viable choice for a modern-day Hunter/Gatherer?! http://www.amazon.com/dp/1580080510/?tag=paleodef-20alt text

Carly, oak0y is German - English is not his first language. I think he might actually be using Google translate sometimes. His tone doesn't always come across right, but usually you can get the gist of his point, though.

I find it highly amusing you are commenting on the "less educated" American with your spelling and grammar. I for the record am English and also have a lot of empathy for the animals I eat. You contradict yourself however, why is a "big mammal's" life more valuable than that of an insect? Also can I add you shouldn't make sweeping generalisations about a race of people the way you have and expect your argument to have any substance.

some people just complain on efferething looking strange for them. Why is it natural to force your body eating dead animal, without the sense of empathy for the animal? Some people here seem to not like, things which are in thier small american educuation. Paleohacks wonderful shows how different american society is. There are the less educated who try to downvote everything what seem too strange for them. And the more clever guys or educated who understand things from a different view. Sometimes, you just have to try out instead of asking other? Sometimes its better asking oneslef.

Spiders wouldn't be doable for me, probably no matter how well disguised, if I still knew that a spider was involved. Shelob, anyone?! (*full body shudder*)

yep, yuck, but it's a cultural thing, I am sure that if you had eaten them since childhood, you wouldn't think twice. not sure i'd go for spider though either - a prawn is not to distantly related from a cockroach.

shudders Erm, I would if they didn't look like bugs. Especially spiders. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat them without shuddering every three seconds and squealing like a girl, possibly with some retching involved.

Paleo aside, I've always wanted to locate a good source of grubs. As soon as they're certified organic, pesticide and other toxin free etc. I'll be buying beetle larvae in bulk by the pound. That's one corn-fed creature that would still be nutritious.

I'd eat crickets for sure. Other bugs...I'd have to take them on a case-by-case basis. :D

I've had grasshoppers once. They were sauteed in a wok with peanut oil and pretty good. I'm willing to give any dead non-human carcass a shot. I would mostly have a problem with dog or cat, but if offered I would try them.

I'd try them out of sheer curiosity, not because they're paleo.

I found a store near me that sells hickory-smoked crickets and dark chocolate covered crickets. I have been very tempted to try them. But to be honest, I'm too squeamish and probably will never do it.

I'd be willing to eat insects if there was a reliable source and I could be sure they were free of insecticides.
