New to the Paleo diet.

What exactly can I eat? I'm shooting for the zero carb menu. I'm 35 yr old male, 5ft11in and weigh 216, a few months ago I was at 190. I can't seem to stick to a life long healthy diet. I do love all meats, eggs, and dairy products. Are my beer and liquor weekends going to be a problem (social drinking)? I gave up all sodas years ago, half lemonade and water every now and then or unsweetened tea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input. I have weighed 250 at one time. I just feel the weight creeping back up. As far as exercise I know works amd what doesnt for me. I just need to motivate myself again. I havent done any type of cardio or weight training for the past three weeks. Food poisoning one week, virus onw week and now I think I have strep. I have four kids I get what they bring home.

Derek, I have not done much research on alcohol consumption, so I don't have any info for you on that subject, sorry.

A life-long healthy diet is pretty hard with zero carbs. It's like trying to stick to a healthy diet with zero meat. Maybe it's possible, but why limit yourself like that?

I would recommend reading a book or two on this way of eating. Maybe The Paleo Solution, by Robb Wolf, or The Primal Blueprint, by Mark Sisson. Take charge of your health. If you're looking for a book that's more about lower-carb plans, try Protein Power by the Drs. Eades.

if you're shooting for a zero carb diet, there's not much you can eat. that's tough, why do that?

My husband was the same size as you (even same height) and he lost 30 lbs on the first months of Paleo with low carbs. I think leaving the sugar and gluten with automatically make you drop the pounds. Even if you occasionally have drinks. I would personally choose a different alcohol that doesn't have gluten. Remember that when you really stick to Paleo (even with the very occasional indulgences), your body will burn fats instead of carbs and sugars for energy. This means that you shouldn't worry about having a low-carb diet. Any carbs will turn into fat since they are not used for anything else in your body and they will be burned for energy as well.
