IF is simply eating all your calories in less meals rather than more. For many it means simpy skipping breakfast. Whether you eat more or fewer calories is beside the point.

If you follow Martin's plan of an 8 hour eating window, the point is that you can eat big and still be in a calorie deficit. On training days you eat more. He restricts fat on training days and carbs on rest days, so it's not like you can just eat anything you want. He generally reccomends real food as well. Very congruent with paleo.

It doesnt exactly work like that, it is no magic bullet, you cant sit on your couch eating oreos all day and get ripped. Read Leangains website. Martin breaks it down pretty well.

I've been eating Paleo and IFing for 4 months now. I'm down 30 pounds, but according to the bioimpedence scale, have lost about 6 pounds of lean mass. Not too alarming, but point being, that's eating 100% locked-in Paleo.

If you IF and eat junk, subbing carbs (and processed carbs at that) for high quality protein and fat, you're going lose much more lean mass. I'd say on the order of half fat, half lean mass.

Get your diet dialed in and when you IF, get plenty of protein and fat and you can drastically minimize muscle loss. IF and heat junk, you'll be skinny-fat in no time flat.
