I created this diet comparison chart (PDF) a year ago and was thinking it's time for updating. What would you change?

Or add a GAPS or SCD column?

I really like this. There is Paleo consensus on some things such as minimize processed seed oils, but the consensus on eating nuts and seeds is probably less strong. Perhaps your chart could somehow capture that spectrum. Also, Paleo meat preference has a spectrum which could be included.. ruminant/wild game > pork/poultry

Beth, I'm sorry I couldn't just post something really positive. You write so many good things.

Yeah, it's necessarily simplistic ... you can make the same argument re the many ways to paleo too. Thx for the comments!

Also, Dr. Donaldson recommended not eating nuts and seeds at all. Dr. Kwasniewski states that they are an inferior source of nutrients, and to avoid PUFA. Your idea for the chart is nice, but I think the format is too small to give an honest portrayal of the many ways to LC. Sorry I couldn't just say, "great". :)

Beth, the early phases section in the Low-Carb refers to Atkins. There are other LC plans which do not recommend increases. Bernstein, Lutz, MacKarness, Kwasniewski, Pennington, Donaldson, and Groves come to mind immediately. Artificial sweeteners are not encouraged by everyone. Two examples: Dr. Donaldson said not to use them. Dr. Bernstein recommends only the ones which do not have added sugars, and to avoid all sugar alcohols. I think it would be very hard to make a short chart which covered all the different LC plans in brief.

Perhaps some reference to N3/ N6 ratios in nuts for the Paleo column. Maybe mention olive oil (unheated) as a fat in the Paleo column? I personally don't agree with the artifical sweetener comment (people might use them, but they shouldn't).

An auto-immune Paleo diet seems to be more and more popular (and beneficial for many) at the moment - is it worth refering to this too?
