I have researched the paleo diet and I am very interested in giving it a try. What foods can I eat and what foods should I avoid?

You've researched the diet but don't know which foods to eat and which to avoid? Which aspect of the diet did you research? –

I would start by "cleaning" up your pantry and fridge.

Foods to avoid:

-Industrialized vegetable oils

-Grains and all products derived from grains

-Legumes

-Sugar

-Corn syrup

-High fructose corn syrup

-Butter substitute

-Pasteurized,low fat Dairy products

In general terms, stay away from processed foods, start cooking on a daily basis, make your plate out of 50% plants and 50% animals

Good luck and welcome to the tribe

Rather than listing everything myself here, I am going to nudge you towards some more research. You've researched the premise, but it is now time to research the diet itself.
There are 1000's of questions on this site all about what to eat/not eat and the theories or tribal feuding about each one. You could drive yourself bonkers trying to sift through it all without some basics under your belt.

Read books by Mark Sisson or Robb Wolf.

Start by reading a book. Primal Blueprint is the one I would recommend.
