Breastfeeding Mama here! Healthy and keep losing weight?

Hello all!

After all the "bad" weight is lost and I am burning fat for energy like a good Grok... Should I increase my protein intake and try to gain some muscle weight?

Daily Eats:

(I am breastfeeding and therefore I eat a lot)

Green smoothie- Leafy greens, banana, raw cacao, spirulina, coconut milk, water, coconut oil, random frozen fruit. Coffee ;) Sometimes quail eggs, bacon or chicken sausage. Snack: mixed nuts Lunch: Leftovers from night before, green salad or sweet potatoes, carrots Snack: Green smoothie, cashew butter and banana or carrots or celery or mixed nuts (Whatever I feel like basically, but there is usually food consumed pre-dinner). Dinner: *Beef something, chicken something, shrimp/seafood something... Always a big meal, with a variety of veggies and salad. Sometimes I eat dinner twice. Random: Dark chocolate, kombucha, sauerkraut, wine, homemade treats, Vitamins and supplements. Herb teas. Herbal tinctures during the "sick" seasons.

Please note, I am paleo because of health reasons. I am not here because I want to be super thin and fit. (Not that that is bad). I am 5'6" and 124lbs. My son is 23lbs and 6.5 months young. Thank you!!!

That is interesting that you said this because my mother is battling leaky gut from eating gluten her whole life. I think I caught my sensitivities at just the right time! I am working on healing my gut right now. I'm so glad there are other people out there dealing with similar issues! Thank you so much!

Just wanted to say kudos and thank you for understanding that mama's gotta EAT! You're all that little baby's got right now for nutrition, not to mention keeping *yourself* nourished. I feel like we see too many questions on PH about breastfeeding + overexercising + undereating to "lose the baby weight," when that's just going to be disastrous all around.

Your diet looks good. If you feel good, then keep doing what you're doing. If gaining muscle is your goal, then strength training will be more beneficial than eating more protein.

Add in some liver & bone broth to boost your nutrients. More fat to stop losing weight.

You may have malabsorption problems - I was a breastfeeding mum with a voracious appetite but kept losing weight. My body then threw a wobbly and ever since, I have been allergic to most things except fruit and veg (and not all of those) - I fell ill with autoimmune RA due to leaky gut suddenly and dramatically worsening! Maybe address the malabsorption problem? Do you already have broken down mucosal barriers in your body? (do you have allergies/ suffer reactions/ etcetc?) Good luck! And take care of yourself :)
