I have Fibromyalgia, Degenerative Disc Disease and Arthritis. I went on Paleo 5 days ago and my pain is gone. This seems like a miracle to me, I was in so much pain for so long. I am 55 years old but I felTtlike I was 90. Please explain this to me so I can tell others. I had Very bad Lower back pin and joint pain. It was hard to get up and move after I had been sitting for a while. I feel 20 years younger. Thank you very much, Kerry

I cut out all dairy, all grains and all processed food as it said to do in the book. I didn't have the book at first but then I really felt like i needed it as a resource to continue. I bought the book and read the basics about what foods were ok and what to cut out and then I lent the book to my daughter who started the diet. B4 I did but she had just been looking things up online as I had been too b4 I got the book. I lost 3 lbs right away but then regained it after about a week but I can tell that my body is changing in a positive way even without losing weight. I ran out of space to finis

Guess I should have asked what you didn't eat (anymore) :)

I also ate salmon, tuna, and beef twice. I forgot to mention those above but later remembered when I was thinking about it. Thanks, Kerry

JakeA, I have Fibromyalgia along with the other painful chronic physical disorders that I listed above in my post and my pain was gone in only 5 days after going on Paleo. I believe it is the anti-inflammatory effect of going off grain. I can't believe that doctors are so ill informed, no pun intended, that they haven't told any of us about this eating plan!

Thank you very much. I am just thankful that I was told about it now by my daughter. Alteration, I ate turkey, chicken, shrimp, cucumber, zuchinni, summer squash, avocado, apple, clementine, and 1 banana over the past 5 days. My body is definitely changing for the better and my mood/outlook is too. It is very amazing!

Congratulation, Kerry. I have had relief from similar issues as well. Doesn't it make you wish you'd discovered this way of eating decades ago? Anyway, welcome, and keep up the good work. :)

Alright I guess if "you won't be in major pain" isn't enough what else can I do. Thanks though.

"I've had complete strangers listen to be, but close friends and family think I'm a crackpot." Lol, so true.

As for getting people to heal themselves...I've tried and given up. I've had complete strangers listen to be, but close friends and family think I'm a crackpot. Robb Wolf says it best here: http://robbwolf.com/2012/04/04/paleo-diet-convince-it/ ... As far as references, I don't have specific references. I've listened to every Robb Wolf podcast, read everything Chris Kresser and Gary Taubes have put out plus lots of random articles. Then I've synthesized that into my view into the paleo-health world.

Mike can you expand with some articles or references? I'm sure you're right, but I'm trying to get a fibromyalgia sufferer to see how to heal themself and they are stubborn. Thanks!

Couple of reasons:

-Paleo is a low-inflammatory diet. Most inflammation-like problems don't show up gradually. That is, your symptoms don't generally show up in proportion to your inflammation. The way it usually happens is that there's a threshold. When you're below the threshold, you have no symptoms and when you're above the threshold, the wheels are falling off the wagon. So likely eating paleo put you below the threshold of inflammation and all is well now.

-Fibromyalgia and Arthritis are generally auto-immune problems. While it's unlikely that you'd have such a drastic response to auto-immune issue so quickly, it's possible. By cutting out the gluten you're giving your body a break and letting your immune system relax so it's no longer attacking itself.
