Hack my wife's toe

Answered on August 19, 2014

My wife has been complaining of pain in her big left toe for weeks now. We've ruled out an ingrown toe nail and improper shoes. She says it gets worse if she touches it. She does get her toes done about once a month. Any idea's?

Red and inflamed? Points to gout.

Gout was my first thought too.

Gout was my first thought as well...seems like excess fructose or perhaps too little vitamin C could be the cause.

Go to the doctor! Or podiatrist. Foot issues are not fun! And they can figure it out way faster than any of us can because they are looking at the culprit!

It's apparently very common for infections to be spread from improperly cleaned pedicure tools, so it could be an infection form that - but I would recommend going to the doc.

It could be gout. I agree you need to see a doctor.

It could be a bunion. Does the side hurt more than the actual toe?

I know you've said you've ruled out improper shoes, but if she is wearing soft toed gym shoes, that could irritate it more.

Or psoriatic arthritis. I have psoriasis and have that in two of my toes. Left untreated it became difficult to walk...Once I got treatment relief was nearly instantaneous. Does your wife have psoriasis?
