Hi, Having tried the whole30 a few times, I have always noticeably (in the first few weeks) really struggle on the weekends. As the post on the whole9 website details, (http://whole9life.com/2010/05/w30-motivation/) weekends can be a hazardous time. Im wondering if anybody has any tips or strategies which have helped them to maintain the lifestyle with weekends and the like. Thanks

very interesting, I think the boredom is something which gets me on the weekends more so then during the week. find it much easier with work and being at my box and keeping busy as compared to no wod's on a sunday and nothing particularly to do. I guess its simply keeping myself busy

I just did not have a weekend in those 30 days. Just try to change your weekends, those are only 4 weekends. Once done, you will feel great and then you can come back to your usual weekends because then you will be off the addiction

I didn't struggle at weekends at all. I changed what I'd do at weekends. Instead of going out, where drinking would be involved, I arranged more day time events. Evenings became more about cinema, seeing friends and going out for (Paleo friendly) dinners. My sleep improved so much, that I noticed shift in my weekends - instead of sleeping in late, I was up early, so had more active weekends - and earlier nights.

Also another thing that really helped was not going to social events hungry. In my experience, that is where it can all go wrong! If I go to a party or social event where I know there will be a lot of bad food, I make sure I eat well, just before I go.

Don't feel you can't go out for dinner - just find Paleo friendly places. Or have friends round for dinner.

Another thing that really helped me was telling people what I'm doing. Most friends were really supportive and made sure my food requests could be accommodated wherever we went.

If I have some Sunday down time, I'll burn a little of it up by making a really big production of making breakfast, and maybe invite some friends over (or not). Fried eggs over sausage and sweet potato hash, or a complicated frittata or something requiring home-made mayo or hollandaise sauce. Also, I prep most of my food for the week on the weekend...something about being elbow-deep in the good stuff helps me forget about the other stuff.

This is interesting. The weekends are actually easier for me. I have a desk job and on weekdays, I often want to reach for forbidden foods out of boredom/irritation at bring in an office with no windows/to break the monotony. On weekends, I'm able to occupy myself much better and take my mind off food.

If I'm with friends, I just enjoy being with them and don't think about the food. Ditto what Michael RB said - I eat before going out, and eat well with plenty of fat. If I'm alone, I go for a walk when I have cravings. It helps that I live in a city - I tell myself that I'll allow myself some almonds or whatever treat from the bulk food bin at the organic food store, just over a mile away (I can't keep almonds in the house - I'll eat them all in three seconds flat). By the time I'm halfway through the walk there, I'm enjoying the walk so much that I don't want the treat any longer.

Then once I pass day 25 or so of the Whole 30, I'm done. The cravings are gone, and I don't have problems with either weekdays or weekends.

My trouble originally involved giving into temptation when I was already hungry on the weekends. I solved this by eating before meeting up with people therefore I could handle myself more reasonably at a party with only awful food.
