Pouring out the Omega-3's in sardines?!?!

I was reading one of Kris Kresser's post about fish oil and someone in the comment section advised not to pour out the juice in sardines making the claim that that's where all the Omega-3's are. I get mine packed in spring water and have always just poured out the excess liquid. Have I been making a huge mistake? Thanks! :)

This (older) newspaper article says not much of the omega-3 was lost in water packed fish, more in oil packed fish since the omega-3 is oil soluable and more leeched out into the oil used in canning.
