Is procedure of extracting omega 3 from krill safe?

I am concerned with mercury and PCBs from salmon unprocessed(not fish oil extracted from salmon) in taking omega 3. Other option is fish oil extracted from krill due to low body mass with less mercury contamination. Question: how safe is method of extraction of oil from krill? Chemical processes of extraction may use several catalysts and solvents which may be approved by FDA and still pose risks to health perhaps after much research in the future. what is probability of risks of mercury in eating unprocessed salmon directly compared to risks from extracted omega 3 from krill?

thanks uep for additional dimension of Selenium for mercury. One thing not clear to me is that there should be collisions between selenium and mercury for beneficial effects and both are in low concentration. Thus how can one achieve combination between selenium and mercury unless helped by some other enzyme? Anyway thanks a lot uep

He also has things to say about krill oil, in a series of articles and a podcast about fish oil vs fish.
