Should I Stop My Suppliments?

Answered on August 19, 2014

On the 30 day challenge and I was wondering how many of you take suppliments? I know I do but before I go further into it I was wondering if I should stop. I take a One A Day Multi-Vitiamin, Biotin, Fish Oil (dry climate in Colorado), and Acai Berry.

Your thoughts?

Acai berry has anti-aging and weightloss properties (studies are still being done to see how it helps weightloss). Also, it is FULL of antioxidents. Antioxidants helps with life stressors and reduce the risk of some diseases, such as heart disease and cancer.http://www.webmd.com/diet/acai-berries-and-acai-berry-juice-what-are-the-health-benefits

Biotin helps with hair skin and nails (I have very then nails and my hair breaks easily due to chemical straightening). It supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism, and cells. I figured this is good for me as the extra boost for hair and nails would be good and I do see an improvement in both from taking it.http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/lifestyle-guide-11/supplement-guide-biotin

It's a combination of kickboxing and dance. When I dieted a while ago for 9 months (very similar to paleo) and did turbo jam I lost 25lbs and developed leans muscles. After I added a few ab work outs I got a six pack too, so I know paleo is legit :)

Off topic sort of, but may I ask what the acai berry is for? I've always wondered what it helps. Thanks :)

Yeah well there isn't any harm they can do! I don't eat a lot of fish so the omega-3 supplement is a good idea! Just choose the ones that fit in well around your diet and lifestyle but i think the multivitamin is a basic "yes" for everybody :) What is turbo jams if you don't mind me asking??

Thanks Ryan, that's how I feel about it. I work-out also (walk 40min for dog, treadmil w/incline for 30min, and 40min turbo jams cardio 5-6 times a week) so I figured the added suppliments were good for me.

My Doctor has me on a whole slew of suppliments that I have not stopped taking. I am on Day 16 of my 30 day challenge. I have a whole host of problems that I am hoping a combination of Paleo and the supplements will take care of.

RE Acai: I wouldn't take it as a supplement, but highly recommend Sambazon frozen Acai puree (most health food stores carry it). It is my favorite berry ingredient in a delicious kefir-based smoothie I whip up every morning: 1 Acai pack, 2 tbs of Cocoa Powder, avocado, a bit of lime juice or ACV, coconut butter, chia and stevia! Besides its yummy taste, Acai is also very low glycemic and even contains essential amino acids and Omega 3.

If supplementing with an essential nutrient (like biotin) makes a positive difference in the health of your hair and nails, then you were deficient to begin with. I cured 15 years of reactive hypoglycemia with biotin. For me, it's indispensable.

That being said, acai berry is obviously non-essential, but it's unlikely that it is harming you in any way.

Hi there,

I am just coming to the end of my 30 day reset and have taken supplements throughout under the advice of my gym trainer who has been eating paleo for the last 15 years and is a qualified nutritionist also.

I take a centrum multivitamin and an omega 3 fish oil in the morning, a flaxseed oil mid day and a calcium, magnesium and vitamin d3 in the evening after my last meal..

I hope this helps you?

Personally i would say yes why not!

Ryan
